Completely stuck :( - December 13th 2010, 08:32 AM

I was studying English and Creative Writing at university, but the course was totally not what I wanted. I rushed into a course decision because I had no intention of going to Uni, and then wound up going just to keep my parents happy. This meant I ended up in a godawful course with a bunch of unfriendly people, and I was so miserable that I cried every morning before going in.

So after all the stress and depression, I've decided to leave and reapply for a course at the local college in September to do Floristry - the course I wanted to do originally but wasn't allowed to ["It's a waste of a degree! You need to do a real course!"] My manager has offered me a longer contract so I can work for the next 9 months, and I was all set to reapply for September.

I go to Ucas - course search - and it's gone. Lack of interest. What upsets me the most is that I phoned them and asked about the course and was told all this great stuff about it last week, and now it's been cancelled. There's nowhere else that I can find that I wanted to study at and that was my last hope.

I thought this would make me happy, and now I'm in even more of a mess than when I started.
Now I'm utterly stuck. HELP!

You're not in more of a mess, you're in less of a mess than you were when you were doing that course. You were doing a course you didn't enjoy and that you didn't want to do. Now you're not and you've got a job -- that is an improvement. So your plan A has fallen through in floristry, but that doesn't mean there isn't a plan B. Look around for other floristry courses, there must be some somewhere in the UK, or other degree courses you'd be interested in. I WOULD recommend figuring it kind of quickly and not taking a gap year to try and find what you want to do because if you start in 2012 rather than 2011 it's going to be so much more expensive.

Maybe they were planning to have it last week when you called. Were they signing up for classes? Since you have a job; even though it will cost more if you waited you could save your money working.

You can also look around for another program as said above.

I looked on UCAS and there is still floristry being advertised at one college. Could you not apply there?
