Re: Staying motivated? - January 14th 2011, 03:08 PM

Firstly, I offer my condolences.

To continue, saying motivated is very, very difficult. I find that I am most motivated when I keep my goals in mind. For example, although I'm a first year undergraduate student, I have already been emailing potential graduate schools and law schools inquiring about admissions requirements. I found out that Harvard requires a minimum GPA of 3.75 and allocates a great deal of weight to research experience. As a result, I am motivated to work harder in order to achieve the GPA I need and I have also taken the appropriate steps to acquire research experience. I just got a volunteer opportunity as a research assistant in a Psychology lab here at my university, which is unheard of for a first year student.

This simply shows that, with hard work and motivation, you could do anything. Make a list of your goals - no matter how short-term or long-term they may be. Find out what you need to do in order to achieve those goals (i.e., volunteer, get a certain GPA, etc.) and take the appropriate steps in order to do so.

Good luck.
