I really want to go to sixth form but my school is crap (no really its even been in the papers) and they only offer a few things and we have no one to talk to about it!
I have decided on english, history and science but i want to re-take history and i dont know if i can do that!
plus it says on the letter you need a grade of C to get in and i dont have that in any subject!
i work hard i listen in lesson i do my homework and revise before exams i do everything my teachers tell me and more! i practically have no life outside of school! but i still cant get over a D in anything! does that mean im stupid? i most likely cant get into sixth form of college because of it and my parents hate it! i have a learning disability which means im supposed to be three years behind but in my school you only get noticed if you throw a brick through someones window and nick stuff!

i dont think i have any future! is there any point in me even trying anymore?

Have you got a further education college near you? You could always go there to re-sit your GCSEs before going onto A Levels. If you are getting D's at GCSE I would suggest re-sitting them before moving onto A Levels as A Levels is a lot more challenging than GCSEs. I don't think this means you are stupid, with the lack of adequate support and teaching most people would struggle, a good college should help you.

You could also get some revision books from waterstones and revision exercise books and work hard outside of your school work (as in extra work) and you can find past papers for your GCSE subjects online, print them off, do them in the set time and then mark them yourself. If you do enough of them you should see an improvement in your grades.

If you pay attention in class, do all your homework, do extra revision from textbooks, revise a lot (by a lot I mean 2-3 hours every day) and do all the past papers but you still struggle then it may be that you are not good at exams or not academically inclined. I don't think this means you are stupid.

Religion is like a penis.
It's fine to have one.
It's fine to be proud of it.
But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around.
And PLEASE don't try and shove it down my throat.

Re: am i stupid? - February 9th 2011, 09:39 AM

You can do it.

As long as your do 4 things.

1)Focus (Try to do okay to okay(60-70) in 3/5 course per semester, and try extremely hard on 2/5 course(aim for 75-85%) per semester to figure out the key of boosting your marks)
2)Work really really hard (study 2 weeks before exams or test at least, Presentation rehearsal = 1 min of presentation = 1 hour of practice)
3)Innovate(Do research and Apply your knew knowledge)
4)Be realistic.
5)Create a Social Support System(make friends with people who wants to do well in class)

When i was younger I always had problems at school. I almost failed kindergarten ( i know!... lol my parents were too busy to teach me). Because of my poor performance in kindergarden... it really created a growing problem because i need to know my abc's and 123's before i can spell bigger words or even do math. So the problem continues to persist up to high school.

But i realized when I foused, studied really hard, and was innovative I did really good on 2 courses because it is more manageable than trying to do really good at 5 courses(per semester).

Over 2 semesters I focused on History, Social Sciences, English and Biology. So I can get into University.

I focused on those four courses because I like them. I can make projects, Present, and I have so much more freedom to do the things that I want cuz the rules are less restrictive (the irony is that I am an accountant in training now). At the time, there was a beautiful girl in my class she likes me alot and I liked her alot. So i didnt want to look stupid cuz she is from a well respected family and she was pretty popular and shy at the same time. So i gotta look perfect ( i know iwas 16 or 7 at the time) So i gotta be "strong", smart and well liked" So I realized hey thats the key! I studied sooo much its not even funny. Instead of just using the textbooks and notes from class i used google(at the time it felt pretty new lol) but I STUDIED a head of time. I looked at the course outline(the one the teacher gives out on the first day of class)

When the teacher asked a question i answered it and every one was soo impressed. So it kind of reinforced my behavior to do it more often and to study. Keep in mind i was shy at the time. Which also really helped me with my presentation skills. When I had to present I try to google and learn the best ways to present. Instead of trying to become better than a fellow class mate, I tried to present like a world class presenter. Of course i didn't become a world class presenter. lol but compared to my fellow class mates i became a league of my own. I was more organized it looked more natural and ect.. But really i watched a bunch of TED videos, I watched Apple CEO Steve Jobs on youtube(on his iphone and ipod debut clips), I googled to figure out how to break the ice... how to create more inclass intereaction. I bought a book from Amazon on how to present. I alo Borrowed 2 books from the public library (not from skool cuz wanted no one to know). And I did so well in the class that I eventually got a 87/100.
I learned that great accomplishments require a tremendous amount of prep work.

I learned that in 1 min of a presentation takes 1 hour to rehearse. Yes a 10 minute presentation takes 10 hours. I did a 80min presentation cuz my prof wanted me to teach a class lol. My presenations are top notice in university because I learned soo much in highschool. And i continue to this day to expand on them(even at work in accounting so i can present to executives hopefully by next year or 2)

In university, highschool and even in work. I realized friends help you study they will give you advice, they will remind you of deadlines, and you should do the same to them.
