Acceptance/Rejection Thread (2011) -
March 7th 2011, 06:26 PM
Ever logged on to a forum focusing on college admissions, interviews, etc. only to be shot down by fellow applicants and/or students? The reason why I love TeenHelp is because we're all so supportive of one another! =) So feel free to post your acceptance/rejection notices here. Whether the news is good or bad, know that you will have a loving online community to support you throughout the entire process!
--- I guess I'll go first. I am currently applying to PsyD (doctorate) and MFT (masters) programs in clinical psychology. So far, I have been rejected by the University of Denver and George Washington University. I have been interviewed for Pacific University and Spalding University, and should hear back from them within 2-3 weeks. I also have an interview with California State University in Northridge on Thursday. ![]() HelpLINK Mentor : Article Editor : Disputes Committee Member : Performance Committee Member Forum Moderator (Relationships and Dating, Friends and Family, Mental Health, Education and Careers) Feel free to contact me anytime, about anything! =) "There's no cure for normal." - PSY |

I have already posted in the UK thread but I thought I would join this thread too. We can only apply to 5 Uni's.
I have applied for Diagnostic Radiography. So far I have offers from University of Liverpool and University of Cumbria. I have been rejected from the Cardiff University. I am still waiting to hear from University of Derby. I also have an offer for a foundation year in the Bradford University but I really don't want to go there and I don't need to now as it was a back up foundation course and I have 2 offers now

So far I've been accepted to Baylor University, Hendrix College, Austin College, and am awaiting a response from Trinity University. So far I'm considering going for an MD in psychology and am hopefully able to use that for a career in either Psychiatry or a director (this is my less realistic dream)

Thanks. I'm not getting too excited yet. I had offers last year but didn't get the grades I needed and had to retake the year. I am not getting my hopes up yet this year because I know I could still not get in.

Thanks, guys! <333 Also heard back from Spalding University (the other doctorate program) this morning, and they're offering admission as well! I'll probably pick Pacific University, based on location and a few other factors (internship placement, scores on licensing exams after graduation, etc.). Quote:

![]() I have conditional offers from the University of Birmingham, the University of Gloucestershire and Aberystwyth University. I'm waiting for the results of a scholarship for Aberystwyth, which would give me an unconditional offer. Maybe it's not my weekend but it's gonna be my year.

Re: Acceptance/Rejection Thread (2011) -
March 15th 2011, 06:47 PM
I hate the undergraduate admissions process. In 2006-2007, UCLA used a "holistic" approach for accepting applicants. I found out that a girl with a 3.0 GPA (NO AP/honors courses), who participated in NO extracurricular activities, was accepted to the university based on her personal statements and intended major alone (apparently, it was a very unusual major). Now, I may just be "one of those bitter UC students who didn't get into UCLA", but that seems so incredibly wrong to me. So some years (at least with the UC system), universities will focus almost entirely on your GPA and test scores, or they'll place equal emphasis on all the elements on your application, or they'll go way outside of the box to make their student body more "well-rounded".
I can only imagine the same thing happens with the other university systems at times. =P Then again... that man's parents attended MIT as engineering majors, and he changed his mind at the last minute to apply for the visual arts/computer media department. Needless to say, THAT probably affected his acceptance more than anything else. I mean, who goes to MIT for visual arts? =/ And I know all too well how stressful the admissions process is for parents. Partly because they're going to pay for many of your expenses, and partly because they want you to be set up for success. So it's both a financial and emotional investment. They want to have as many options as possible to consider, just as you do... cost, location, quality of education, career opportunities, etc. (Keep in mind that your parents aren't constantly talking to fellow students/teachers/counselors/admissions staff members, too... so while YOU may be well-informed about the overall process, and therefore less stressed out, your PARENTS may be freaking out because they are in the same position as a high school freshman - no clue on where to start or even what to ask/look for).

It works differently in ireland. We study intensive courses for 2 years at least 7 subjects and get points for our best six. all based on a final exam with practical/oral. My course is a sure thing it's only 360ish points because you need honours maths. So
university of Limerick next year to hopefully do physics and specialize in nanotechnology or particle physics. Ill know in august Though |

Yup, there's no limit in the United States. You can apply to as many schools as you can afford (application fees can be rather pricey [$50+], so that's usually why students will limit themselves).
--- I have a little update of my own! So as I've previously mentioned, I have two PsyD offers to consider (Pacific University in Oregon, and Spalding University in Kentucky). I now have a third option, however - Pepperdine University's masters program. The nice thing about Pepperdine is that I could stay in California, and it would only take half the time to complete my degree (which means less tuition, which means not having to go into debt/take out student loans!). The not-so-nice thing about Pepperdine is that it's not a doctorate degree, and I'd be living in a highly saturated area (lots of therapists in the Los Angeles area), so my pay would be lower and decent jobs would be harder to find. I have to make a decision by April 15, so I'll keep you guys posted!
