What kind of questions do they ask? - June 26th 2011, 02:55 PM

Basically I'm going for an interview tomorrow for volunteer work. It's just sorting out what kind of volunteer work I could do. Will it be like a job interview or less formal? what will they ask? what on earth should I wear?

I think it depends on where you're planning on volunteering. If you're volunteering with kids then they may ask you questions like what experience you have with them.

When I asked about volunteering at the charity shop near me they just asked how old I was, what hours could I work and when can I start.

I'm not too sure if they'd want you to be formal or not but I'd say go dressed formally since if you went looking informal and got it wrong it'd look worse than you dressing formally if you get what I mean. I suggest just plain black trousers and a blouse

Take care and good luck

Preferably children I'm always around my friend's two-year son and my two-year old step-neice so that will sound good.

Thanks

They will probably ask what sort of voluntary work you are interested in. And probably your age, how far you would travel, what hours you can work and what days ect.

I would suggest wearing something smart but casual so perhaps some black trousers and a smart of top of some description perhaps a blouse or a smartish top. as for shoes perhaps some black pumps or black trainers.

It might also be an idea to bring in your certificates and your CV.

' i can't do this anymore'

You should expect questions about your history with children, that is, how much experience you have had working with children (and to describe it). You should also expect questions of why you want to volunteer with the particular group or organization and perhaps some scenario questions. You'll probably be asked about your references you gave. Lastly, there will be questions on when you can work.

Since it is not a paying job, don't go wearing something very expensive and formal but at the same time, don't dress like a slob. Your appearance will tell a lot about you, so wear casual clean clothing without crazy patterns or images on it. There's no harm in dressing too formally but there is harm in dressing too informally.

I would also suggest to prepare a list of questions ahead of time to ask the interviewer. Chances are some of the questions will be answered right away. Forming questions shows you are interested, intelligent and gives an example of how you interact with people. It also gives you a better chance of having the interviewer give you examples of their personal experience and hopefully you can relate, allowing for a more fluid conversation so you'll be liked more than other candidates and get the position (assuming you interact properly). Try to analyze how the interviewer asks questions, that is, are the serious or relaxed. In doing so, you can shape how you'll respond and be more comfortable.

If you haven't already submitted a cover letter, references and any certificates, then bring them for the interview. I suspect you may need to know some basic emergency medicine, such as CPR but even if you don't, then having such credentials tends to look good as it gives the interviewer as sense of security.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

Hey guys I'm actually not doing volunteer work right now. She sent a form off for me to be a part of a teen/young people support group with depression/anxiety first, she said once I've finished with that I should apply for volunteer work again
