Is Anyone Else Struggling To Find A Job? - September 13th 2011, 06:43 AM

I'm 18 and have never held a job before. I've been looking for about two years now and NOTHING. I've had about three opportunities where I was at least called for an interview, but never hired. I just don't get it. I know the economy sucks, but damn. I knew a bunch of people two or three years younger than me who are getting hired by jobs and I wonder what makes the manager hire them over me. I'm 18 and at least have a high school diploma. They're 16 and have nothing. I put in applications to places everywhere, call the hiring managers to check on the applications I put in and nothing works. I feel so discouraged, it's like why even continue looking.

It's mainly the enconomy. But I heard an interesting comment the other day which was It's not the qualification that will get you the job, it's how you presesent yourself, your character, your passion and your work ethic. Food for thought. Maybe have a look at the way you present yourself at interviews and see if you can improve it.

I've been struggling to find a job for nearly a year. October 15th will be the day I quit my job and when I began actively looking for a new one. I did it backwards.

I've had interviews, and I've been selected for two jobs. One I turned down since their hours couldn't fit in with my schedule, and the second I took, since the hours could. Now, I have an open schedule, but am still without work. I've been trying and trying and nothing seems to be going anywhere.

It's mainly the economy. So don't blame yourself.

I graduated with a bachelors degree in May and have been looking for a job since. I didn't work while I was in school and I think the lack of experience is what's killing me. I haven't even gotten an interview yet. If I didn't have enough money to cover my first few loan payments I'd be even more of a wreck right now.

I have a very part-time job with good pay, but it's only during the school year. I haven't been able to find a real job yet & the few I thought I found didn't hire me. I had a summer job for a couple of months, but it really didn't suit me well & I wasn't able to meet the demands of my boss, so I quit.
