Miserable and want to change majors -
September 22nd 2011, 02:57 AM
So lately I have played it safe and never changed a major before (yes I know how), but I have been taking psychology for a year and a half now it seems like I am ready for a change. Designing became a first choice, I love fashion and even though I do not have a lot of money for clothes so it seems like I do not. Do you think I should go for it? I hate waking up and going to class to something I hate, What do you think I should do? Oh and there is one small thing I can't sew, my girlfriend will hopefully be a art teacher, and there is a lot of inspiring fashion designers

You don't need to have a lot of money for designing fashionable clothing. For example, Daymond John founded FUBU without having much money at all. Granted, it is an extremely competitive market, it's a hit or miss.
In terms of psychology, I'm doing a double major in biology and psychology, minor in sociology. You'll find people don't care for all aspects of psychology. For example, I find social psychology and some cognitive psychology (non-biological) to be incredibly boring and dull. In fact, the branches of psychology I like are biological psychology, which is along the lines of neuroscience, visual and auditory perception and analysis, brain-injury, forensic psychology (not entirely neuroscientific or biological), etc... . My point is, while you may not like your psychology course right now, look what the other higher-year psychology courses are and see if anything sounds interesting to you. If nothing sounds interesting, then perhaps you should change majors, however, remember the competitiveness of fashion. If you want to go into the fashion business, perhaps business or marketing majors could be more suitable. I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

Look, if you don't like waking up to go to class and learn about it, I doubt you're going to love waking up and doing it every day for the rest of your life. You don't really need to magically know how to sew, it's something you might learn later down the line. Sewing isn't that hard, nor is it the end of the world if you aren't perfect at it.
Besides, in life, you do what you love and screw the rest. ![]() Take me seriously. I dare you. |
