I applied last week to 4 uni's in Scotland cause it's free here

I really want to go to Glasgow to do Psychology but not heard from them yet, kinda stressing cause it seems like every 5 mins someone updates their facebook status to say they've got an offer but oh well, will just have to wait and see!

The courses you've applied for look really interesting, hope you get good offers

yep i'm applying for psychology to all 4 but might combine it with philosophy or something once i get there (if i ever do )

I'm sure you'll get in, those grades are good!

I've not had any offers yet but hoping for an email any day *fingers crossed*, plus it should go off the grades i got last year anyway rather than predicted grades for this cause Scotland is weird and our last year at school doesn't really matterm

Glasgow University typically doesn't look at their applications til March. I think they only hand out unconditionals before then.

Good luck to those who are applying for 2012 entry. I've applied for French and have received one offer and have an interview for another uni on Thursday. Eeek!

I'm doing 6th form applications and terrified of sending

Going to apply for maths, chemisty, french and RS at my current school and,
Philosophy&Ethics, maths, physics and chemisty at the other although that doesn't fit so I chose p&e, maths, physics and geography if I can't get other!

I think I'm getting old. Will be sending off PhD applications next month for funding at Oxford, Edinburgh, St. Andrew's, Trinity Dublin, and UCD. All the same application for Classical Literature.

I'm considering applying for nursing (adult) this year, do you know when the deadline is? Particularly the deadline for King's College and City...or is it the same for all of them?

The deadline is January 15th 2012, but I would advise against leaving it until the last possible minute.

I haven't decided if its something I definitely want to do. Already have on degree, but want to go into a healthcare profession. Been working as a healthcare assistant so nursing seems like the next logical step. Looks like I've got a month to decide

Medicinal Chemistry. Vaguely considered being a healthcare scientist, but I like people and hate labs...

Having a degree in a science subject will definitely be an advantage. Most unis like nursing candidates to have a science A-Level, so they will be incredibly impressed with your degree.

I'm just going to throw out my opinion here since I have been to all of the uni's and I know people at all of them too.
If I were to put the uni's in rank order of which I would recommend then I would go

Lancaster
Chester/UClan
Edge Hill/Manchester Met

Lancaster is a really good uni. I am at uni of Cumbria in Lancaster and Lancaster Uni has an amazing campus and reputation especially for courses like history. I would have had them as my first choice uni if they did my course. I also really like Lancaster as a city but it depends on what type of place you want to live in, some people don't like it.

Chester and UClan are also really good uni's and have good reputations but not as good as Lancasters. Chester is a similar city to Lancaster and Preston is a bit bigger and busier.

Manchester Met and Edge Hill are in busier and bigger cities but the uni's aren't as good or reputable. Edge Hill is a good uni but they focus on Nursing and Teaching degrees.

Have you been to visit the Uni's?
What type of uni and city are you looking for?

Re: UK University thread 2012 - December 20th 2011, 08:45 PM

I've visited Lancaster and Manchester Met. I have also lived around the area of the uni in Preston so I know how that is and I think my options are going to be
1st-Lancaster- because its my dream university and i love everything about it and its close to home
2nd-Chester-Because family are close and i've heard a lot of good things about chester for the university and i think it would be a good city to live in. i'm going to visit it in january
and 3rd- Uclan- because although people do not have a big knowledge of it in all of the UK its very recgonisable where i live and i'm not thinking of leaving my town forever. It is also close to home and the halls are said to be quite good
