Question How much do YOU study for an exam? - April 12th 2012, 08:54 PM

So I was wondering how many hours do you normally take to study for an exam? I'm more or less referring to final exams but if you're not in college yet, then this could also pertain to big unit exams and provincials and what not.

I honestly don't study that much. I think I kind of spread out my studying, but it's usually not more than a couple of hours. I'm one of those people who just can't concentrate enough to study, so I typically just review right before the test so it's all fresh on my mind.

Well since I'm not in college I just take finals for High school and stuff and I study about 3-4 hours.

Not enough. I have terrible concentration so it's usually cramming that gets me the grades.

I'm not in college so this is about final exams. I put on average 5-6 hours. Sometimes I study two to three times a day for at least two or three days, if not four, just so I can get things down. In math I don't study though because I don't know how.

I'm in high school. I put one to two hours. That's a maximum for me. Sometimes I don't study at all for finals.

I always leave studying to the night before. I usually spend about 3-4 hours reviewing the coursework. I tell myself to start earlier but I never follow through. I still get good grades however, so maybe I'm doing something right?

I'm not in college, but I never studied for anything. I pretty much got sraright a's and b's without having to try too hard. Most of it was just easy to remember for me. I didn't even study for SOL's, and my grades were so good in senior year I didn't have to take a single exam.

Three to four hours in all. More if it's mathematics.

I really don't study too much unless its a test that I know I won't pass unless I do. And then I usually study for 1-2 hours

Re: How much do YOU study for an exam? - April 13th 2012, 12:36 AM

I wish there was an option for "other." I don't really have a set amount of hours that I study for an exam. It all depends on the class and the topics covered by the exam. It also depends on the type of exam it is - short answer, essay, or multiple choice. If I wait until the night before, I could study the content anywhere from an hour to 8+ hours. I've spent the whole day studying for one exam and an hour for another. Annnnd for some exams I don't even study, 'cause I'm awesome.

Law.

I study for at least 12 hours a day for 6-7 days when preparing for an exam.
So, all in all, final preparations take me around 84 hours to study for an exam (just one, really).
But at law school, exam prep is constant. You start in first week. You do about 12 hours a week per subject in prep for the exam. 13 weeks before the exam, makes it 156 hours throughout the semester. Plus 84 hours final prep. Around 240 hours per subject studying for an exam.

I'm in my second year of university and I study a lot for final exams. I have a full scholarship to keep which requires straight As, so I don't have much of a choice.

Plus, my program requires straight As, as does my goal of attending a top law school when I'm done my undergrad.

Depends on the test for some classes I can study for 1 hour and get a 10, like for the theory classes. But for other classes I need at least 4 hours like the math classes and such and for other classes I can pull an all-nighter (physics) and still feel like I need more time.

Not as much as I should. I have a really short attention span when it comes to studying, so I'm usually cramming within the last week for my finals. It's crazy, but something about the pressure works out for me. I know I'll have to kick the habit and actually study when I hit college, though.. That should be interesting.

Depends on the exam. Finals? Hours, a few hours per each final. Tests? Probably two hours for each. I need to increase it. I'm trying to get into better study schedules, but I'm so easily distracted.

For my exams, I study for an hour or so a day for several weeks. Unfortunately, recently, that's much lower. But I did four hours of maths yesterday and my exam isn't for another six weeks. xD

I aim for an hour on each subject every day for about a month and a half before exam season starts (all of mine are spread over a two week period in May) but that's not going so great at the moment =/

Re: How much do YOU study for an exam? - April 15th 2012, 01:16 AM

I'd love to say I do more since I am in college and all. But since I am pretty good at getting B's, I'd say I am doing fine. I usually study like 6 hours all together for a final exam, might be like up to 8 or 9 depending on the class and style of exam though. I think I would study harder if I cared about getting A's though :s. I want to go to grad school so I DO need to step up my act.
But I'd say I start 2 days ahead, and study 2-3 hours the first day and 4-5 the next day. BUT since I study through out the semester I'd say it probably balances out better than I think.
PLUS if I am writing a paper that'll take more time too. My problem is that I have ADHD and get SO SO SO bored of school REALLY easily. And even though I want to do well enough, its a contestant struggle to keep on track on top of everything else so I think that affects my grades too

It really depends on the subject. For Geometry and History, I maybe spend half an hour or so (easy subjects). For Spanish, we're looking at closer to an hour or more. Bio for me is a challenging subject so it typically gets the most time (but we also spend a LOT of time reviewing in class, so I kinda memorize some stuff simply by repetition. Of course, when I get to the college level, I expect I'll be doing a LOT more studying. Of course, there are some study sites out there that are pretty handy...and they shave some time off in some cases too.

I never studied in high school.

But engineering slays me.
Therefore.. for finals, at least 6 hours. But I've studied for
about 12 hours for one once.

High school is really a joke compared to university. If you want to get As in university, you really need to put in the work. I'm in the midst of finals in university and I've been sitting in this exact spot for 13 hours straight now (ate dinner in here).

Multiply this by 8 days already. And then multiply it by the next 13 days, because I'll be doing the same thing.

First impressions last. Start behind the eight ball and you'll never get in front.

Anywhere between 1-3 hours.

I hated studying. College was the same. Never really got great grades but always got by.

When I was in college, I usually started reviewing a week before mid term/final exam around 3 to 4 hours a day. I took notes during classes and summarized my textbook at the weekends while memorizing them, so the study week mostly were reviewing my notes.

I've only had like, two exams so far, and I did not study that much at all. Granted, I'm just not that good of a studier, I've probably studied more than my answer, but generally I don't study that much.

Re: How much do YOU study for an exam? - April 25th 2012, 12:12 AM

It depends on the subject for me so I didn't vote.
Also, where I live we have final exams and mid-terms in high school, just saying it is not just college that gives those...

Are you kidding me " 9 + hours " ?

I've been studying for more than 9 hours PER DAY on average for the last 4 weeks,
and my exam is 3 weeks away.

I am not an excessively hard worker. This is the level of work that is required. I think the volume of work assessed must be drastically different because in 9 hours I would cover a very very small % of the examinable content for my course.

It's fine to be proud of it.
But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around.
And PLEASE don't try and shove it down my throat.

For my A levels, I would revise science and social science for 2-3 hours a day, and that would be about a month in advance. For English I could only revise for about an hour because there's only so many times you can read the same book without going insane.

Since I'm studying English at uni... go figure. My first exam's in a week and I've done pretty much nothing.

In my undergrad, I studied 9+ hours each day for each final exam. Some final exams were cumulative, in which you had to know every single detail, big or small. Other final exams were non-cumulative, however, the professors were sure to test nitty gritty details. You still had to know the material that was not directly covered since content at the end of the course builds upon content from the beginning.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
