Motorcycle riders: suggestions? - February 21st 2010, 05:37 PM

Hello,

I started riding last year in June. I got myself an '05 Suzuki GZ250 thinking that I would be satisfied with it for a few years. Well, needless to say I am not. I would like to get something along the lines of 800cc, preferably a cruiser but I would enjoy any body style. My budget is $3000

Do you have any suggestions?

harley they have sportster bikes starting at 883cc and u can deff find a used 1 for around 3 grand. older yamaha viragos r nice 2, its kinda hard for sum else to tell u what kind of bike to get since its such a personal thing. My best advice would be go to a few dealership and check out the bikes get a feel for the different makes and models see what suites ur style best then do a little shopping around untill u find 1 u like

I love Harley's the most. Definately go to a few dealers and just try them out and see which one is best for you. That is the best thing to do.

Least expensive one I found on cycletrader was $3,395. Harleys definitely look good.

How's the maintenance on yours? In the brief ratings I found the 1200 sportster is about average in terms of maintenance. Do you work on it yourself? Because given enough time, I would become a gearhead if I had the right bike.

Thanks so far guys. If I got a Harley, I'd probably go for the 1200 sportster just because I don't wanna grow out of the 883 haha.

btw, I am only 5'8" tall if that makes a difference.

try going here... You can atleast see the general direction of which bike you want. (click on my dream bike tab) It also shows you which bike would be best for your height. Hope that helps with your decision a bit. Show us which bike you do end up choosing.

Ah, okay. Since I am looking at newer ones it shouldn't be a problem then haha.

YES! If I could I would get a sportster. They are SICK!

Harley is the only way to go.

You should go for a Triumph, I know they have a bike called America which is a cruiser style and around 850ish cc? Though I'm not sure if it's in your price range? It'd pwn a Harley though.

Personally I hate Harley's, just meh, not weather bikes and I dunno, but that's just me.

Triumphs are incredible, I rate them above almost everything else.
I'd say check out ebay, sounds daft but they had some damn nice cruisers up not so long ago! just a matter of luck I think.

And Goldwing?!?! <--- possibly the only bike I can truly detest, they look like flying arm chairs, and cornering on them scares the hell out of me! I mean no offence, I mean each to there own, but they just make me shudder.

I'm liking the Kwak Vulcan atm, just looks so prettyful, not sure how they handle tho.

lol yea riding a goldwing is diff from most bikes i mean they r huge, lol im a bigger guy so a dint notice that as much as for handleing they ride a lil diff from most bikes but once u get a hang of it there really smooth espesially for long trips not to mention a 6 cylinder bike is just beastly sounding
