Painting: Blending tips? -
August 21st 2010, 02:18 PM
So I'm painting a canvas...at the moment
![]() I've never painted my own one before... they have always been pictures at school which I had to paint. So I have complete creative controll... I have decided to paint a sunset landscape, because I find them really beautiful... So I have filled my canvas, not a patch of white left on it and now I'm leaving over nigt to dry so I can blend to colours tomorrow problem is, I haven't painted a canvas in a long time, and I need tips on blending the colours together... My art teacher used to wet my brush... but I'm also trying to add colours into the painting so it has more detail... and tips would be really useful

Hello fellow artist.(:
What are you painting with? and are you trying to make the scene look bold with thick paint, or like a watercolor with thin paint..? Whatever your doing, you can add just water and let it run, then blend in a bit of the other color with the water between the two colors (if that makes sense d I'd love to see how it turns out! Pm me if you have any other questions (:-K. ![]() In this world of hate there has to be a light Be that light and spread some love Maybe this day the youth can make a difference, No more hate. -Christofer Drew days since i last SHed. |

I was going to say pretty much what Kayla said, being a (crappy) artist myself.
![]() Anyways, if you blend paints, and water down the colours, it should blend nice. Like, if you're blending yellow and red, mix up a bit of orange, and water it down over the yellow to make a thin layer, and progressively add more and more of the orange, dissipating the water a bit, to blend each section. I think that was the intended idea. If you get what I mean. That method wouldn't work for oil painting though, I wouldn't think.

It really does depend on the paint type, the tools you are using and the technique that you have employed. Blending is mostly to do with the colour, so try and make a good gradient of colours when you're blending the paint. You may find it easier if you do try and do some seperate blending exercises before you paint on the canvas. Try going from black to white in a gradient, then you could start experiment with colours. It's easiest just to try and experiment with your painting - it's the best way to learn.
