To move or not to move ? - October 29th 2012, 08:55 PM

Okay basically when I was younger I my parents left me so I got moved into foster care. I have been living with my Grandparents for the last 6 years and now I have turned 18 I basically want to move out. I have money I have saved up all my life. I do have a job but being made redundant in the next week so need to get a new one. I just need advice If it would be wise to move out while not having a job ? But I do have money saved.
Hope you can help.

Hey Chris!

Each person has their preferences, but I know that I for one would rather have job security, so that I wouldn't have to solely depend on my savings. The job market is tough right now, so as great as it is to have savings, I feel that it is that much more to hold on to it. I know for me personally, I've been living off of my savings for the past 5 and a half months and I'm almost out of money now. It's not a good feeling. Granted, that wouldn't necessarily be the case for you, but it's good to have that cushion in place for when you really need it. So maybe you could just wait it out a little bit and see how finding a new job goes, and maybe within a few weeks you'll have a new job and will be able to move out without having to depend solely on your savings.

Best of luck!

Great works are performed not by strength, but by perseverance.

I agree with above. While its great you having savings, you also have to consider that you'll need to be able to pay for food, toiletries, and more. So having a secure job would be a good thing to have before you move. In the meantime, you can start to look at different apartments and such and see if you can find a reasonably priced place that you will be able to afford and that will be conveniently located.

And here you are living, despite it all.
