I'm going to India, i feel i need a bit of soul searching. I'm going to start in Goa, but i need ideas of where to go after. I dont know how long I will be going for, and I will try to avoid the major tourist haunts if I can. Hidden gems are greatly appreciated from those who have been.

Idk where you should go after,and I'm sorry for that.
But I just want to say have fun on your trip. India sounds so amazing. I hope you find who you are.  And take a lot of pictures to show us!

Ohh, i went to india - goa a few years ago.
Unfortunatly we were staying in a touristy part, but we ventured out and it's amazing i want to go back!!It was different for me as im a english white female- alot of attention which was quite unsettling in the other parts of india. Watch out for people grabbing you to try and get you to buy their stuff and just generaly be cautious The locals and taxi/tuk tuk drivers are absolutely lovely, it's just the ones who travel to goa to see the tourists and some beggers which you have to watch out for. But apart from that, just the whole culture in india is fascinating. I can't give you any suggestions as i can;t remember the names of the places we went- wern't famous landmarks. But once your there the locals will certainly be happy to give you suggestions (and taxi drivers are easy to haggle down prices  ) It takes a few days to get used to it, but once your there its fantastic

I have never been to India, but I am sure you will have an amazing time. In general, India is a beautiful country, bursting with so much culture. You should research online for the best sites and read tour guides. Plus, look for places where many tourists usually never visit, because those are usually your hidden gems.

I went to India last June and am planning to go again June 2010. I suggest you go to Bangalore I stayed in Bangalore and I loved it, it's not very touristy so you should be fine. There are parts such as M.G Road which is a city centre shopping type place but we only went there for one day. I really did enjoy Bangalore. Are you thinking of doing any charity work or anything? If so pm me and I can tell you about a charity I worked with in Bangalore who will definitely help you with your soul searching, they changed my life and it was the single most amazing and fulfilling thing I've ever done. Whatever you decide to do I'm sure you'll have a great time, from my experience, India is full of warm and welcoming people and you'll be welcomed wherever you go!
