Going to Malta! - November 14th 2010, 10:56 PM

I've only ever been abroad twice - once to Paris for 3 days on a school tour and last August for a module with the university in Greece for 3 weeks. Greece was amazing and erhaps the best 3 weeks of my life. I got a scholarhip for it so all I needed was spending money. My family could never afford foreign holiday..and I had always considered myself a home bird not really interested in going outside Britain and Ireland - we have enough culture in our own cities - Manchester, London, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dublin, Belfast, &c., &c. But Greece changed that...

So the Classical Society is going to Malta for 180 euros, including flights, accommodation, breakfast, and entrance to museums and sites for 5 days.

I rung my mother expecting her to say no and there wasn't any money and I should go back to London to get work for the Christmas, but no, she said it can be my christmas and 21st birthday present...I then said I'll need to renew my passport and expected her to back track - and she did falter at this. Until I told her my British passport is only about 70 as apposed to 140 euros to renew my Irish passport and she said she'd give me the money to go down the embassy to renew it this week.

I can't wait for it, because I always get a long really well with people on things like this where you're in a group for a while - the army, university in general, and when I was in Greece.

But I'm also worried that Malta will be nothing like Greece, other than the prices, especially in January whereas I was in Greece in August. We were having dinner by the beach in Greece and it went dark really late in the night and it was hot all the time.

I can't believe I'll be abroad twice in 6 months.

I had a friend who lived in Malta. It seems like a beautiful place, there's a beach and warm weather. I've always wanted to travel and go to places like that.

This reminds me of the youtube video The Italian Man who Went to Malta. Anyways, I have always wanted to go there. It seems like a beautiful place!

And here you are living, despite it all.
