Calling those who live in the UK and/or are familiar with it! So my paperwork just went through and I now have a brand spanking new visa that will take effect as of January 2012.
This allows me to move across the sea and live amongst you accented folk for up to 24 months. Here's the thing, I have no idea where to start. I've done some prelim research, hell, I've been there before (and met quite a few THers, once upon a time three years ago). I realize it's not a huge deal - I'll probably just end up going where I can get a crappy job that'll pay my bills and then move around when I get bored. BUT I'd still like opinions. So, what city/ies would you suggest living in? Pros? Cons? Anything? Help me out here! And if you don't have a suggestion for where to live, what are your must sees to visit? Cheers for anyone that takes the time to respond! ![]() |

All I would say is if its a job you want don't move to essex, jobs are scarce and is the 8th black spot in the UK for unemployment and is the only county in the south east. all the others are up north. I would say your best bet would be London. London has an train line which can pretty much take you anywhere in and out of and around London, theres also some famous landmarks too. A must see / do in London is the tower of London (known to be haunted ) , and the London eye (from the London eye you can see most of the capital city) . I also think you would have a better chance of getting a job in London than anywhere else! The only disadvantage of living in London is the prices of everything, its very expensive.

Part of me wouldn't recommend london because the prices for everything can seriously mess with you. i do see jobs being scarce (granted that's everywhere)
Wherever you do end up living make sure that you dont spend money like it grows on trees ps look into cambridge (just read about it and get reviews and stuff (internet is amazing) because i dont live there personally) Hey, guess why i smile a lot... because it's worth it

If you think London is expensive, I don't think Cambridge would be a very welcoming idea either!
I can only talk for north of the border but I would recommend Edinburgh, and places further north. Avoid the west lowlands of Scotland because they're not very pleasant, but Edinburgh, the east coast and the highlands (including the west) are all lovely. Edinburgh is quite expensive as well though. |

London and Cambridge are awesome, I would also reccomend Leeds, Cardiff and anywhere in Derbyshire.
London is amazing because it has everything. Cambridge has awesome shops and a nice culture. Leeds is just somewhere I like, it has good shops and i just like the way it feels. I've never been to Cardiff but everyone I know who's been has loved it and I think it looks pretty amazing... Plus my username suggests I should pick it. Derbyshire is beautiful! It has such a nice surrounding and I know the housing is relatively cheap But the mountains and scenery there is really awesome and stuff.I would also reccomend visiting somewhere seasidey like Blackpool or Great Yarmouth. Both are pretty awesome! To be honest I would reccomend you do everywhere because I love them all. Just be warned though... Peterborough's a bit rubbish unless you want to live a normal life! I hope you like it in the UK! Xxx When life gives you one thousand reasons to cry, show life one million reasons to SMILE! ![]() Because we all love pigs |
