How many? - March 11th 2017, 10:45 PM

So, I've always had a rule where I'll watch three episodes of a new TV show before deciding whether or not I'll watch the whole thing. I reserve judgement until I've watched the three episodes, so I know I'm not jumping in with opinions too soon; some shows I love now, it took me the full three episodes to warm up to them. It wasn't until recently that I realised other people follow the same rule - my friend and his family do, and I heard another family at dinner the other night saying that that's the rule they follow. Is this a fairly universal thing? How many episodes do you guys give a TV show before deciding if you'll stick with it?

I give shows three to five episodes, it really depends. I did vote "three episodes" because more likely than not, I will stop watching after three episodes instead of giving episodes four and five a try.

For me, it's one episode which is the very first episode of the season. I decide whether the cliffhanger or the storyline was good and then I watch the rest of the season. However I haven't came across a TV show that I don't like

I've watched a few shows that the first few episodes were so so but the rest of them were good so I tend to give it anywhere from 2-5 episodes depending on how I'm feeling about the show.

I'll usually give it at least two, since pilots tend to be different enough from the regular series that you can't really judge based on that, unless the pilot is horrible, then I don't bother. If I catch something in the middle of a season, then I'll usually give it 3 or so episodes, unless I'm so lost having missed a few that I can't follow it.

I actually watched 3 and a half seasons of a show before I figured I didn't actually want to watch it, but most of the time I just watch about half a season, just because some shows do improve after a while.

I dont really have a rule per se but I find that it can take me between 5 episodes and half a season. But if I lose interest before that, I just dont keep watching :P

I asked my boyfriend and he said: "Usually three episodes"

However, for me, it depends. I watched three seasons of game of thrones kind of feeling meh about it and then this one episode happened and I was hooked.

I think in general I give it half a season though and if I am not hooked I stop watching.

3-5 episodes usually, with the rarer occasion of only two episodes if I get a bad feeling about the show.

Usually half a season but there have been a few shows where I watched 3-4 episodes and just couldn't get myself to watch the next one, so I stopped.

I don't have a set rule but normally I give it about 5 or 7 episodes before I decide completely. There have been a few shows that I have zero interest in and can't handle a second episode, but normally I always watch the episode after the pilot because some pilots can be very different than the normal nature of the show.

Somewhere between one to three. I couldn't sit through the new Chicago Justice show and couldn't finish the first episode so that's a good tipoff for me. But some shows look promising and so I stick it out.

I usually give shows 3 episodes to hook me, since the first 2 are usually about introducing characters and plot points that will drive the season and/or series. If I'm still not feeling it by the 3rd episode, I usually call it quits so I don't have to wait all season to decide if it was worth my time.

This is actually a very good topic! I usually give it 2 episodes. I just don't have enough time! Haha

Re: How many? - March 13th 2017, 05:07 AM

It really depends for me. Somewhere between 1 and 6.

I've had some shows where I watch the first episode and I'm like "Okay, I really can't stand this plot, or the characters!" so I never watch another episode.

I've had others that I watch the first episode and its eh, and I keep going a couple more and its still eh after that and I give up.

It just depends on the show for me. I have no set number

This happened with FRIENDS. I can't stand the first three and half seasons, but love the final six and half.
