December group watch - November 12th 2018, 06:32 PM

Hey all,

I'm not doing a group watch in november due to time constraints. However, I wanted to do a few in December.

I was hoping to do one the first weekend of December and I also wanted to do some later in the month.

I wanted to try and do some on Christmas eve or Christmas.

I wanted to do one new years eve or new years day.

Would anyone be interested?

Also, what movies would you like to do?

Having a movie on the 1st, 15th, and 29th (Saturday) of December is one option.

I know Home Alone is a popular movie from the 90s. We have that on in the background at around Christmas-time, but I am not very fond of that movie. Too much shtick happening in that movie and it's just... yeah, no.

You had mentioned in the October/Halloween movie watch thread that Nightmare Before Christmas was an option. But as that (like with Home Alone) came out when I was quite young, I wasn't fond of it. I understand some 20-25 years have gone by, but still. Eh.

I'm sure others will have ideas.

SO some of my favorite Christmas movies are:
Santa Paws and Santa Paws 2...Both are on Netflix
The grinch stole Christmas...is also on Netflix
Mickeys once upon a Christmas...Is also on Netflix

Smokey Mountain Christmas, which is my all time favorite Christmas movie I watch it every year...I am not sure if there is a way for people to get it or not...Since it is a very old movie

The Christmas shoes series...There is 4 movies I believe. I'm not sure where they can be watched...

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

Elf (PG)
The polar express
The grinch movies - There's the animated one and then there is the one that has jim carey.
The holiday (PG-13)
Home alone movies
Artur christmas
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (pg13)
Christmas with the Kranks (PG)
Four Christmases (PG 13)
The Santa Claus - The first is my favorite
A christmas story (PG)
The family stone (pg13) -- One of my favorites and I watch it every year. Slightly sad but also so great

Jingle all the way
The muppets Christmas carol
Scrooged (PG13)

I'm only going to list two of my fav Christmas movies, as most of them have been named already. But the two movies I absolutely love are Elf and Jingle all the way.

Like what do we all do? Like watch the movie and then discuss it?

I really like: Love Actually, A Muppet Christmas Carol, A Christmas Carol(Scrooge-1951), The Polar Express, and The Holiday.

Currently, we watch the movie and discuss it in a thread. I am trying to see if there would be a way to watch the movie and utilize chat or something. I know some people who do group watch's together will set up an account on faceook and ask all kinds of questions AND chat via messenger. Just haven't figured out the best way to make this run smoothly.

Re: December group watch - November 17th 2018, 03:10 PM

I like discussing it on this forum. I am on a Facebook group for a TV show now, and it feels hugely disorganized because you can't simply search for a 'thread' (which I will always view as proper posts as opposed to a thread) or anything like that.

I like the structure old-school forums (such as TeenHelp itself) bring about. Because that way, we have clear cut threads, organized on a single page that is easy to navigate, and you can set for yourself how many posts appear per page, and then quote a post you are interested in replying to.

You don't have that feature on Facebook groups.

This sounds like a great idea. Could we even utilize the chat you have on here?

That's the option I was hoping to consider. It's not going to happen any time soon. I'd have to figure out how to work past the time zones and all of that. Hopefully the group watches get better over time.

Yeah the time zones are what makes discussing through threads easier but I think a chat would be really cool too so I want to figure out a way to implement that one day.

Yeah, if like we could somehow all start the movie at the same time a chat about it as it goes along that would be great. The only thing that would help is for kids like myself are most likely on Christmas/Winter break and don't have school during that time. So say if you start the movie on the Eastern Time Zone in the USA in the afternoon that wouldn't be awful for most European Countries and the rest of the United States and Canada Countries time Zones. What would be really tricky is Australia and Japan/China.

I'd be interested in watching Christmas movies over the holidays, then having a discussion about them. It's a fantastic idea, Jenna.
