Skins America, yay or nay? - January 11th 2010, 01:56 AM

With the supposed Mtv 'remake' of skins for an American audience and its frightening dumbing down of the British skins formula would you watch this or not?.

Personaly i wont.

I liked the British version a lot. I am kind of wary.

But the US Office was excellent despite people doubting it, so if they have the right producers and director doing this I think it can be good.

Re: Skins America, yay or nay? - January 11th 2010, 02:08 AM

I hadn't heard about this, but now i'm going to have to look it up. i'll probably watch the first couple episodes just to see how they do, but i doubt i'll continue. i've watched all the episodes of the british version online, and i don't think i could handle an MTV version. they'll have to seriously censor it and i don't think it will end up having the same effect or be as good. so i guess my answer is no. haha

I didn't know what Skins was so I looked it up, and it reminds me of Degrassi High.
I can't see MTV doing a good job on a remake of a show that took on serious teen issues. We don't get American MTV here, but if it's anything like the Canadian MTV, it'll suck.

90210 sucked, and that wasn't even on MTV. Imagine if that was an MTV remake...
MTV hasn't made a single decent show (well MTV Canada, I have no idea what the actual MTV does) other than True Life. Most episodes of True Life are rubbish anyways, but they had the occasional good one.

i remember a while back MTV came out with that show "Kaya" or something? i think i might have liked that but it got canceled pretty quickly. other than that i agree with Rick, so the fact that it's from them is pretty much diminishing any hope i may have had for this show.

I'm not American, but a few of my American friends who watched UK Skins said they think its going to suck because some of the things on the programme would never be shown on TV? I honestly don't think its going to be as good as the UK version...

On the plus side the new season is out here soon

We both live in the US, but my gf loves Skins. I've never seen it, but it def. sounds like it has similarities to Degrassi, a Canadian TV show about high school life that's popular in the US. I'd give it a go if it were to come on, but I'd probably watch the real Skins first.

I think The Office US is a good remake of The Office UK, I still prefer our version but it could have been a lot worse. Since MTV are doing this it will more than likely be terrible.

Personally i won't watch it, maybe i'll catch a glimpse of a few episodes but i don't see myself as being an avid watcher. It'll probably turn into a catfight show akin to that of 'The Hills' but in a high-shool/college-based setting. I don't see it being as bold or as edgy as the UK skins so therefore it'll probably be rubbish. Even the latest series of skins has gone downhill, series 1 & 2 were the best imo.

Probably suck, only MTV show worth watch IMO was Headbangers' Ball.

They play normal Skins on BBC America though, I've never had a chance to watch it.

I preferred the Office US to the Office UK.

But I'm kind of skeptical about Skins US... especially MTV Skins US. It'd be kind of pointless, considering I watch it for the culture. I can't imagine a suburban group of teenagers managing their lives in the US the same way the same group would in a suburban UK backdrop...

But that's coming from an Aussie. :P

Because in the end, it doesn't even matter.
