Do YOU have the 'Avatar' BLUES?! - January 12th 2010, 11:28 AM

Hi Everyone!!

I hope you're having a super fine day!!

Some people who have seen the movie 'Avatar' are feeling quite depressed - suicidal even. So I was wondering if any of you - who have seen the movie - felt the same way. AND IF SO - don't forget - TH is a great place to talk about feelings. ALL sorts of feelings.

I haven't seen the movie yet. Now I'm not so sure I should. I'm already depressed enough as it is. Sigh.

Without ruining the movie for those of us who haven't seen it yet - how did you feel about life AFTER you saw it?!

No way! Avatar was an amazing and very insightful movie. The characters all played their parts so well, and I (personally) found that movie the least bit triggering. The 3D effects are awesome, the plot is great. In a lot of movies, characters die, including this one, of course, with the massive war scenes. Of course though, the movie is half animated, so its.. fake. lol.

Honestly, the movie is amazing, and teaches a lot of lessons about life and how to keep going, in a non-triggering way. If you like sci-fi mixed with high quality 3D entertainment, then you gotta see this one.

I really can't see why anyone would feel depressed after watching it as opposed to any other similar film? I assume this is just temporary depression of the "bambi's mother was just shot" type? I felt a bit sad in the sad parts of the film, but who doesn't; they're designed to make you sad. But over-all I can't say it was a particularly sad film, large parts of it are happy or neutral. If people feel sad about this then god forbid they ever watch Marley and Me or any other film which is actually depressing.

It's certainly worth a watch, I really liked it. The 3D effects are great, the storyline is alright (much the same as similar films) but done rather well and the acting is pretty good. Don't worry about feeling depressed Craig, it's not a depressing film.

I think that they were saying they were depressed by how perfect Pandora was in comparison to our world, as opposed to being depressed by the sad parts of the movie itself.

Still, I can't say I was depressed or upset in the least bit after it finished. I mean, it was a good movie, but that's all.

A lot of my friends think I should see it but if there is a lot of depression and suicidal thoughts because of it, I better not!

Honestly, if people are claiming they're suicidal or depressed after seeing the movie... there was something wrong before they saw the movie.

The movie in no way should make you want to kill yourself.

some people.

What are they upset that they don't get to ride around on flying animals? or blow up ships? or that their world isnt full of shiny sparkly trees with glittering branches that look like hair?

Honestly... get off your butt and go outside... actually GO OUTSIDE. without a phone, without music, without cars and all the mumbo jumbo...

then tell me if your depressed..

wackos. People need to learn to look at the real world and stop day dreaming about being in a movie.

The movie itself actually sends some great message Craig... you just have to be open to watch for them

Not at all. I don't see what is remotely depressing?

WTF? Have people gone mad? That movie was the most amazing movie I have seen in awhile. It even inspired to learn more about art gerneration so I can hopfully animate and generate my own art one day.

Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

When the movie finished I came out of the movies really happy. It is the best movie ever, and it's not depressing.

Re: Do YOU have the 'Avatar' BLUES?! - January 12th 2010, 11:14 PM

Mmm no it wasn't suicidal depressing to me. It was almost tear inducing because I wish our planet was more united and harmonious, but I realize that the film was made by humans FOR humans to be inspired.

Pandora is not a real place.. it's an idea of a place.

That being said, if watching a film makes you suicidal, I think it's a pre-exisiting condition. This film is not really that triggering, to me.

I don't feel depressed or suicidal. I don't see why it would be either.

I enjoyed the movie a lot. I don't see how it could make someone feel depressed.

It was sad, for sure. Depression-inducing? No. Excellent movie, however.

Huh? Serious? I've seen the film twice now and loved it both times. If anything my flat mates are the ones who are depressed from the film because it's all I talk about at the moment. I even dressed as one of the Na'vi the other night xD

It didn´t make me feel depressed, but I can see how it might make others depressed. I´ve certainly felt depressed, at times, thinking about what humans are doing to the earth. It just didn´t take a movie for me to think about it.
