The Pregnancy Pact - January 24th 2010, 04:51 PM

I saw this movie on Lifetime last night, and i really surprised me. It was actually a good movie.
About the Movie

"Inspired by a true story, the film explores the costs of teen pregnancy with a story of a fictional "pregnancy pact" set against the backdrop of actual news reports about teen pregnancy from June 2008. Sidney Bloom (Thora Birch), an on-line magazine journalist, returns to her hometown to investigate the sudden spike in teenage pregnancies at her old high school. Almost immediately, she comes up against Lorraine Dougan (Nancy Travis), the head of the local conservative values group and mother of Sara, a newly pregnant 15-year-old. Meanwhile, the school nurse (Camryn Manheim) tries to convince the school to provide contraception to students to address the pregnancy epidemic but is met with great opposition from the school and community. As the number of pregnant girls climbs to 18, a media firestorm erupts when Time Magazine reports that the rise in the number of pregnancies at the school is the result of a "pregnancy pact." As the mystery unfolds about whether or not "the pact" is real, Sidney soon realizes that all of the attention is disguising the much larger issues that are at the core of the story"

Its based on a true story. Any opinions? Has anyone seen it?

I haven't seen it, but I really want to. It looks like an interesting concept, and some of my friends watched it, and said it was really good for being a Lifetime movie, haha. [:

I watched some of it. I didn't see how it ended. I think it was okay. Lifetime has had better movies. But one of my favorite actresses was in the Pregnancy Pact, hehe, so I liked it for that.

That looks like a really interesting movie, thanks for pointing it out! I'll definitely have a look for it.

The atoms that make up you and me were born in the hearts of suns many times greater than ours, and in time our atoms will once again reside amongst the stars. Life is but an idle dalliance of the cosmos, frail, and soon forgotten. We have been set adrift in an ocean whose tides we are only beginning to comprehend and with that maturity has come the realization that we are, at least for now, alone. In that loneliness, it falls to us to shine as brightly as the stars from which we came.

I thought it was awful. I was looking forward to it for weeks haha. It just portrayed everything so weird and the acting was horrendous.

Ohmygod, I agree with Kac. It was fucking awful to me, acting was standard for Lifetime which is just horrible to begin with. They did portray everything terribly and didn't have a good realization of anything in my opinion. Don't waste your time watching this if you haven't already.

When all your friends have come and gone,
And the sun no longer shines,
And the happiness for which you long is washed away like an ocean's tide,
When all the hard times outweigh the good,
And all your words are misunderstood,
When the day seems lost from the start
You must follow your heart,
You must follow your heart.

I liked it--I think a lot of people's opinions on it might be swayed because it's based on a true story, so therefore they can't make it the Lifetime-sappy that all of the other movies are I live close to where this happened and do remember it in the news years ago, so it was interesting to see the movie version of it. If anything, it certainly made me think!

A friend linked me to this article this morning--worth checking out if you're interested in the whole movie and how it portrayed reality and all!

I'm personally a fan of Lifetime movies (although they do have some that are really bad) I didn't really like it I was wondering how the journalist thing tied in. I ended up seeing the last 20 minutes first, then I tried the beginning and stopped watching.

I live like... 25 minutes away from this place lol. It was a HUGE deal around here.... everyone knew of it. But I found that the movie made it seem a lot better than it actually was. The girls in real life were getting impregnated by anyone, not boyfriends, including someone right off the street. The movie was way too watered down with horrible acting. Not worth your time.

I started to watch it but had to go somewhere. I want to watch it again. I think I might do that later tonight or something.

I know the acting and what not won't be all that good but it is still one of those movies I want to see

I actually kind of wanted to see this. I don't understand why anyone would make a 'pregnancy pact,' but I thought that watching it and seeing what happened would be kind of interesting. I'm not always a fan of lifetime movies, though. They can be cheesy.

They can be cheesy although there are some good ones out there.
The acting was pretty bad. my mom just kinda laughed.
The concept over all was very interesting to me.

Re: The Pregnancy Pact - February 9th 2010, 03:30 AM

I live not far from Glouster, Mass. My best friend went to Glouster High for 2 years. She knew a few girls who were pregnant down there, and apperently, according to her, there was never a "pact". A lot of girls were getting pregnant, and at one point the idea of raising their babies together was brought up. One girl did not know the father. So the whole story was blown up when that got mentioned, and everyone FREAKED out about it. The Glouster girls were PISSED when the Time article and then this movie came out.
The movie itself, I thought was actually really good. But you have to assume the whole thing is 90% made up, 'cause it really is, lol. As long as you know that, the movie will be pretty good. Eye-opening, almost. Especially when the redhead (Sarah?)'s boyfriend breaks up with her over the pregnancy. She really loved him, so it was heartbreaking. But I guess that's what you get for purposly getting pregnant with his kid and then lying about it at the age of, what, 14 or 15?
