I get scared easily by some, I also get grossed out by some too.
Favourites would definitely have to be the Scream trilogy. I'm extremely excited for Scream 4 as well and plan on going to the cinemas to see it. |

God I love horror movies. It's ridiculously hard to pick a favorite. Two include Saw (personal choice, not a good movie but I like the concept) and Paranormal Activity, but John Carpenter's The Thing definitely takes it.

I'm not a massive fan of horror movies, not because I'm scared of them but because they aren't my thing. I do like the "Saw" series. I quite like Psychological horrors.

Re: Horror movies -

I like the true definition of horror. I like to feel scared. I don't enjoy watching people get cut up in a million gruesome ways. That isn't horror, that's just "torture porn" as the media label it.
Horror is that feeling you get when you're on the edge of your seat, just waiting for the scare to happen. You know it's coming, but you don't know when. Paranormal Activity was the first movie I've seen in a long time that genuinely scared me. I left the cinema shaking after watching that. I got really into it, totally focused on the whole story and it paid off, it was a great experience. I think the Scream movies are great because they don't take themselves too seriously, yet still provide quite decent scares. Signs scared me a lot when I was younger...I do wonder how I'd react to it now if I saw it for the first time at this age. I still think that scene at the children's party is terrifying. |

And someone else mentioned psychological horrors and those are definitely my favorite. I loved The Thing because the monster isn't in much of the movie (though when it is it's terrifying; case and point, dog scene) but there's paranoia that it's amongst you and that it's world-ending should it survive. Another of my favorites that just occurred to me is Hide and Seek. Such a great example of the genre

I don't get scared in horror films. I found paranormal activity boring, and the one time anything slightly interesting happened, I was cracking up, while everyone else was screaming.

First thing to mention just because Megan did, the movie Paranormal Activity isn't a horror one seeing as how I fell asleep in the theater, awoke only by the random screams of audience members. I look up and it's like "the fucking door closed, boo-frick-edee-hoo".
I've burst out laughing in various horror films and some I don't consider horror movies yet others do, such as Grudge, The Ring, etc... . Saw isn't a horror movie, it's not even you're good ol' slasher movie. It's just a bunch of people getting torn apart in weird and sometimes funny contraptions. Even for a blood-n-gore movie, it's not the top at my list because to me, Salo is way more brutal than Saw AND has psychological elements to it. In fact, it's been banned in numerous countries because of its content. I like "true horror movies" where you're scared shitless. Slasher movies to me are just fun and sometimes funny movies, no horror in any of it. I think Saw could've been an amazing true horror movie because the plot in most of the movies was amazing. However, it seemed the producers thought the excessive torture was "horror". When I first viewed Saw 1, I thought it had damn good potential to be a horror movie. As they released more and more I kept thinking that but the plot then turned to shit. Quote:

A lot of the 'horror' movies these days are just filled with gore. While that's all well and good it gets boring after a gazillion saw films later. I tend to lean more towards thrillers these days like Shutter Island. They're quite scary in their own way without all the blood and gore. Signs is the only horror film that scares me. I won't watch it. Mirrors scared me a little too. ![]() |

Re: Horror movies -

To me the horror comes from the concept of some unstoppable and unseen force there's always present, wants to do you harm, and can't be reasoned with. The things it did weren't particularly scary, it was just the fact that you knew it was there and that the random acts it committed were slowly increasing in severity so you knew it was going to get to the point of hurting people. I totally understand if you thought it was freaky, I just think it was on the right track for how horror movies should be: less gore, more suspense and build up.

If anything, Horror films have made me less easy to scare. I love the story lines coz I'm a pretty dark person and I enjoy dark story lines whether real or not. One that had an after effect on me was The Strangers. It didn't scare me while I was watching it, but that night I was terrified of any noises, and I had the masks in my head.

Scary movies only scare me depending on the mood I'm in. If I'm in a vulnerable or negative mood, of course they're going to scare me.
If I'm just watching one because I'm bored, or if I'm in a good mood, then no. They don't scare me. I don't like gory movies with a lot of graphic stuff and blood. I'm not a blood fan at all. Haha. :P I might be crazy. But have I told you lately that I love you? You're the only reason that I'm not afraid to fly. <3 |

They don't scare me, but they disturb me. I'm never afraid of what takes place on the screen, or get an adrenaline rush or anything, but the images kind of scar me and, being someone when likes to believe in a Disney-esque world, I honestly feel like my aura and my soul takes a blow when I see certain things. So, yeah, that's why I don't both watching them.

I'm not going to lie, the first time I watched Jaws it scared the life out of me so I'm not the greatest when it comes to scary movies.
However, I don't mind them but I think I'd prefer to watch a scary movie with somebody rather than on my own.

The bad thing about most recent horror movies is that most characters in them are so annoying, you end up hoping they die anyway.
