TOWIE -

The only was is Essex. Who watches it? Because I am struggling to see the reason as to why it is so popular. It's awful!

I don't get it. It looks like extremely freakin dumb TV, for those with an IQ below those who read The Sun.

For Fresher's week there was a TOWIE night and they had a vajazzle stand so you could go get your vagina all jewelled up and I was just like "no -__-" ![]() |

Okay so I've seen a few episodes. It sucks. Yet somehow...it's entertaining.
I hate it and yet I really love it too. I dont get why people like it either.

I like the whole mindless reality tv aspect, without turning it into a big stupid competition like big brother etc. But I'm not the biggest fan, mainly because, despite having grown up in nearby London, I can't understand half of what thye're saying ...
I much prefer Made in Chelsea. It's mindless, pointless TV. I watch shows like this when I'm studying for noise, but something I don't actually have to pay attention to. As for why so many people like it ... most people are nosey as, and are interested in other people's lives. Shows like TOWIE allow us to watch other people's lives without actually prying in ... You can't move mountains by whispering at them. Take a look at my art here: http://attemptedart.tumblr.com/ |

My friend likes it. I've watched a couple of episodes. It's like watching a car crash; it's awful to watch but I just can't look away. I just sit there in amazement for 30 minutes wondering how some people can be so annoyingly stupid.
I'm not a violent person but I would gladly punch Lauren in the face. I think the overall idea is good. I like the idea of them following people and their lives. Thing is it's so set up and stupid it doesn't work. If you are looking for TV with no intelligence, no morals or complexity, this is it. ![]() |

I think people watch it because it make them feel better about themselves because they don't have to be as fake as them to be liked and they want to see if it is acted or if it real

Re: TOWIE -

I remember when Friends finished, some important people in the TV industry figured that the sitcom was now over and that reality TV would be the next big thing. Upsettingly, they were correct, in a way. I can sort of understand the appeal of Jersey Shore because it is so freaking daft, and it has become a part of pop culture in a way. But rips offs like TOWIE, Made in Chelsea etc are just cashing in on something that worked because it was so different. To watch Snooki be an idiot was entertaining and it was okay because she didn't live anywhere near us, but these shows have put me off ever wanting to go anywhere near Essex or Chelsea. When I hear someone is from Essex now I tend to scoff, which is unfair, but it's the negative effect this show has had on the area. I imagine The Scheme might've had the same effect for Onthank (for those who were able to watch that show).

I know how you feel. I can't even watch Gavin & Stacey seriously anymore as a lot of it is set in Essex >____< Whenever they mention where they are I subconsciously roll my eyes.

It's car crash TV, pure and simple, and for that reason I want no part of it. People messing up and embarrassing themselves on nights out and so on is one thing, but doing so for the commercial benefit of a TV channel just doesn't sit well with me at all. As others have said, it's also not giving the best impression of Essex either. So no, it's not for me.
