Favourite Guitar Solos - April 28th 2012, 11:01 PM

A thread dedicated to that coolest and most self-indulgent form of musical expression: the guitar solo. Post your favourites in here, ideally with a YouTube link so we can all enjoy them. If you can link to the time at which the solo starts, that'd be awesome.

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
The Black Mages - Dancing Mad
Nevermore - The River Dragon Has Come
Steve Vai - Tender Surrender (no, this isn't a mistake. I mean the entire song)
Kaki King - Neanderthal (once again, the entire song)
Death - Symbolic
Necrophagist - Fermented Offal Discharge

Take it away, music lovers.

Re: Favourite Guitar Solos - April 28th 2012, 11:15 PM

I've always LOVED the solo in stairway to heaven...

I really like all the riffs used in Fleetwood Mac's stuff. I especially like the riff in "Rhiannon"

Also, the riff in "dust in the wind" is easy to play and just a really pretty song.

I wanna fly. So I do gymnastics instead.

I'll just keep holding on to what i believe and oh I believe in you. Give me the strength for the fight and the heart to believe cause I've got to believe in you. I feel so alive.

I like so many guitar solos it's hard to pick just a few But I do like...

Van Halen - Why Can't This Be Love?
Dream Theater - The Count of Tuscany (I love all of the many, many guitar solos that this song has)

I honestly can't think of anymore right now.

The Coming Curse - Iced Earth (orgasmic)
also Afterlife - Avenged Sevenfold
um and i know dueling guitars and guitar solos aren't the same but the intro to Lost - Avenged Sevenfold is orgasmic

It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.
You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward.
How much you can take, and keep moving forward.

"27" by Fall Out Boy.
"Beat It" originally by Michael Jackson, but I'm talking about the FOB cover
"Afterlife", "Beast and the Harlot", "Buried Alive", "Crossroads", "Bat Country", "Nightmare" and "Unholy Confessions" by Avenged Sevenfold :3
Hell, just the guitars in Avenged Sevenfold in general. Makes me wanna dance.

EDIT: Totally forgot "Dancing Dead" xD There are probably more Avenged songs I left out. You get my point ^_^

This is an improvisation solo done by Shawn Lane. Considering he was born with a western-influenced style of music, it is amazing how well he got with indian music (when he went there to learn it) before he passed away.

There are very few people like him, and I doubt i'll see another in my days on this earth.

Is it safe to say that Arch Enemy is my favorite guitar solo? Even the riffs that they play with ease, the ones that aren't meant to be pure guitar solos.. The Amott brothers made it a guitar solo, especially live.

Shame they went to shit, but yeah. Jesper Strömblad <3

Self pity will not rescue you.
Sometimes we have to save our own lives,
not because no one else cares, but because no one else can.

Life for you has been less than kind
So take a number, stand in line
We've all been sorry, we've all been hurt
But how we survive is what makes us who we are.

Dreamed up the maps, give me the charcoal and the paper
We invent paths they cannot see, and they're too scared to walk

Only after disaster can we be resurrected. It's only after you've lost everything that you are free to do anything.

Guns N' Roses - November Rain, Estranged, Sweet Child O' Mine (main ones, others too)
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Slash - The Godfather theme-tune

There are others, but can't think of any more right now...

Big fan of Slash and old GNR

I've seen men cry at the Comfortably Numb solo be performed live. Hell, I was close to it myself so that has to be on the list. Good calls, everyone.

Bold as Love - Jimi Hendrix(Dive bombs from the 60s. Sounds like its melting. 2nd solo combined with the Mellotron makes that even more so)
Castles Made of Sand - Jimi Hendrix (Backwards guitar solo...nuff said)
Peace of Mind - Boston (Mostly the classic rock, dual guitar sound)
Fly By Night - Rush (Always just liked the upbeat sound of this)
