My music thread - August 16th 2011, 06:53 AM

I've done this on some other sites in the music section so I figured it'd be okay here too, let me know if it's not although I'd be surprised. Just gonna post a bunch of links to songs I like. No theme whatsoever, just thought I might be able to introduce some music to people who may have not heard it. The genres will vary a lot, usually go through phases of genres, but as of late it's pretty random, so expect anything, i'll post the genre in the post so if you don't want to hear a particular genre, you'll be warned

I'd prefer it if you didn't post your own music since you can make your own threads, but feel free to leave feedback on songs etc, or to PM me bands you think I might like.

Gonna start off with a stoner rock/metal band, Whitewater by Kyuss

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcY3UF6_IaM

Not sure if I'll keep this thread updated regularly, but I'll try

Yes, it's that simple.

Life for you has been less than kind
So take a number, stand in line
We've all been sorry, we've all been hurt
But how we survive is what makes us who we are.

And the day pressed on like crushing weights,
For no man does it ever wait.

Classic stoner metal band. Not a huge fan, prefer Electric Wizard, but hey.. at least now I know you have a good taste in music. =]

Actually a pretty big fan of Dopethrone, haven't gotten around to much of their other albums yet though. I jump around genres too much

Next is Melodic Black Metal; Where Dead Angels Lie by Dissection, Storm of the Light's Bane being my favourite black metal album everrrr.

Gonna try and get some folk or something in the next post... but who knows

I'd like it if this was respected, trying to not get the thread hijacked by everyone :/ hence the title name lol

Thought I'd tone it down a bit next song with acoustic rock/contemporary folk band, Dallas Green's City and Colour. This is City and Colour's Little Hell from their new album of the same name.

Aw I thought we just posted music we liked. Fair enough. City and Colour are pleasant, but a bit boring, and I won't forgive him for breaking up Alexis.

Yeah that pretty much ruined my mood for a few days, sucks ass, they are the band that actually got me interested in music

Next up is another stoner metal song, The Astral Project by Orange Goblin, off their "Frequencies From Planet Ten" album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiKCuzQWfFg

I'd have posted a song off The Big Black since it's generally considered their best album, but I always liked this one more, their self titled song off it is what got me into the band in the first place :P

This next song is off one of my all time favourite melodic death metal albums, back when In Flames wasn't total garbage.

Artifacts of the Black Rain by In Flames off their Jester Race album from 1995

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kUBbBta8qc

You've never heard the true in flames until you'd heard their albums from the year 2000 and prior

Yeah, I listen to pretty much any genre, haha

Next song is "Can't Stop" by Red Hot Chili Peppers, off their "By The Way" album, generally considered Alternative Rock, some call them Funk Rock but that's mainly their earlier work (Blood Sex Sugar Magik and prior). Pretty much everyone knows these guys, but I had to post a song just in case.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfOdWSiyWoc&ob=av2e

Not my favourite album of theirs, but this song is really great

Next song is Progressive Metal, really odd band, ha

Sequoia Throne by Protest the Hero

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypCdGNe3Bvs

For me this was a band that really had to grow on me, down right hated them at first, but now I find them pretty damn awesome.

Also am I the only one who finds Rody (vocalist) incredibly attractive in this music video?

I thought By The Way was probably one of their best albums. Then again, it's hard to compete with Stadium Arcadium.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

I'm personally more a Blood Sugar Sex Magik/Californication fan, but I've loved everything since BSSM honestly :P

This next song is Post-Rock, Forever Lost by God is an Astronaut, off their "All Is Violent, All Is Bright" album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9XpzfaMkrY

Really beautiful song, this song got me into this band, and the genre as a whole

Re: My music thread - August 21st 2011, 10:13 PM

One of my guilty pleasures

Originally punk rock (first 2~ albums), now mostly considered Alternative rock

The Goo Goo Dolls' Broadway, from their Dizzy Up the Girl album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbwzPzJ6wCU&ob=av2e

Although I'm not a fan of the band name, at all, I always liked this band, especially this album, so many hits, which were actually worth being hits. This song in particular was dubbed the theme song to my hometown, since the main street in the middle of it was called broadway boulevard, and it was a really small town so basically everything surrounded that street. Just reminds me of growing up in that town, especially since I've moved away for University, makes me remember the day I left, too. A LOT of nostalgia linked to that song, hope some one else can relate :P
