Music That Evokes Emotion. - September 4th 2011, 02:47 PM

I was reading an article the other day about why music can evoke such strong emotions in us. So, let's try something (that hasn't been tried before, or at least doesn't have an open thread devoted to it; I checked, I promise).

Post a list of the top three songs that you've heard that make you feel...

Happy.

Sad.

Angry.

Peaceful/Calm.

And any other emotion you can think of/want to share. I think this should be pretty interesting. I'll post my list in a bit.

Happy
Photosynthesis by Frank Turner.
Tik Tok by Ke$ha.

Sad
Vaka by Sigur Rós.
One Last Goodbye by Anathema.
Tom Traubert's Blues by Tom Waits.

Angry
Imperium by Machine Head.
Panasonic Youth by The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Happy
Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)- Lady Gaga

Blue (da ba dee)- Eiffel 65
Fat Lip- Sum 41

Sad
Breathe Me- Sia
Breakdown- Seether
Sail- AWOLNATION

Angry
Bat Country- Avenged Sevenfold
I Hate Everything About You- Three Days Grace
Pretty Handsome Awkward- The Used

Peaceful/Calm
Mr.Rager- Kid Cudi
Californication- Red Hot Chili Peppers
He Won't Go- Adele

So I was going through my ipod to get ideas of top songs for each category, and I found it difficult to just choose three. I also found that I wanted to just put a certain artist in one category. So like, for happy I would say most of Lady Gaga's music would make me happy. And for peaceful/calm i'd go for most of Adele or Kid Cudi's music. What i'm trying to say is depending on the vibe I get from an artists music, i'll associate them with a certain emotion. If that makes sense? Haha. :]

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."
