Depending on how old you are yu can audition for American Idol (that is if you like that show) even if you don't make it all the way a lot of people get discovered that way. America's Got Talent is also a good one (and you can be any age to audition for AGT). You can also audition for musical at your local theatre. I hope this helps, those are the ways I can think of right now, if I come up with more I will post them.

Could you save up your own money for singing lessons? that way you arent 'wasting' your mums money. Or other then that can you take music at school etc? Join a musical theatre club or try to get a band or sing at any local gigs, anything to get you singing.

Check with the local theatres or you school to see if there are any workshops, or clubs/groups taking place. You could ask to join.
I know here in my town, county youth arts, do a lot of work with young people.
You could practise scales and warm up exercises. They're easy enough. Just google a few... I hope this helps a little

Don't go on Idol if you've never taken a singing lesson, not to shatter your hopes but you probably won't make it. Tell your mum you really want to give it a shot, maybe say "Give me a few lessons, if it goes well you can think about more!"

I thought about you for the rest of the day.
Catching my head turning to find you again.
I hated myself for it.

I wouldn't go on American Idol anyway. It's turned into 'whoever's got the biggest sob story makes the cut.' It's not really about talent anymore.

I've found the one who completes me.

Good point. I retract the statement I made eariler. However like others have said you could save up your money and try singing lessons that way, or try out for different choirs.

I don't know what age you are, but if you're still at school, go check out their music department. They're usually a massive help, in my experience. They should be able to set you up with whatever lessons you need, and maybe even some choir/soloist opportunities for shows they put on.

Definitely try and find a choir nearby if you can, being in one for 6 years has helped me loads.
Even if you can't afford singing lessons, just practicing everyday can really help
