That One Sad Song -
October 15th 2011, 04:02 PM
What's that sad song (or two) that can make you want to cry, and what is it's significance to you, if you're willing to share it?
Mine is: A River Flows in You by Yiruma: The most melancholy instrumental piece I've ever heard, connected in my mind to the saddest love stories ever (No, not Twilight)- the graphic novelization of Masque of the Red Death. Just the first few opening stanzas bring tears to my eyes. Please share yours. |

It seems so typical, but How to Save a Life by The Fray was something I used to listen to a lot when I was down. Every time I listened to it and it showed up on MSN or whatever, people always asked if I was okay because it was the song I'd go to when things weren't great.
On purely artistic basis, Anathema's One Last Goodbye is pretty heartbreaking. Elliott Smith's Between the Bars brings tears to my eyes too. Sigur Rós can do it too, and I don't even know what they're saying. |

"Why" by Rascal Flatts
This song is super emotional. it is about a person that committed suicide. The part that makes me cry the most is: "Oh why, there's no comprehending and who am I to try to judge or explain, oh but I do have one bruning question. Who told you life wasn't worth the fight? They were wrong, they lied. Now you're gone and we cry. Cuz its not like you to walk away in the middle of a song, you're beautiful song." ![]() I got off track I've made mistakes Back slid my way to that place where souls get lost lines get crossed and the pain won't go away. Lucy by Skillet - I've read online that it's about a couple who had an abortion and named the baby "Lucy" and gave her a grave and what-not. I'm sure most of you know, I've had two miscarriages, so it kinda hits home.. even though it's not exactly the same situation...
Someone Like You by Adele - Not sure what it's about but it makes me think of my family and how broken we are and how I have no one around to confide in about it.. Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol - Same reason as Barbara...

The only song that makes me cry is Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle I don't even know why. It's a story from a dad's point of view about his daughter's milestones as she grows up. I refuse to listen to it, but it's the ONLY song that ever makes me cry. I have a huge playlist of songs like this that make me feel better though.

Understanding (Wash It All Away) - Evanescence. Every part of this song makes me emotional, too close to home. But it is beautiful.

"The Bluest Eyes in Texas" by Restless Heart gets me everytime. Partly because of the movie Boys Don't Cry, and partly because it's just so damn sad.
The lonesome Texas sun was setting low. And in the rear-view mirror I watched it go. I can still see the wind in her golden hair. I close my eyes for a moment I'm still there. The bluest eyes in Texas Are haunting me tonight. Like the stars that fill the midnight sky. Her memory fills my mind. Where did I go wrong? Did I wait too long? Or can I make it right? The bluest eyes in Texas Are haunting me tonight. Another town another hotel room Another dream that ended way too soon Left me lonely way before the dawn Searching for the strength to carry on |

ooh a lot of songs make me cry, but the one that can completely change my mood from "what a wonderful day" to "I want to die now" is Shattered by Trading Yesterday.
It's kinda confusing, but if you listen to it with HEART ON and MIND OFF, you immediately get the song's meaning. Best song of all time in my opinion. When I'm down, I can't help but cry scarlet tears. Some people believe in God, I believe in Music. Some people pray, I turn up the radio. I never thought a girl could change my life this much, but you did and now I can't let you go. You'll always be the best part of me. I will miss you, T. ![]() |

Breathe Me - Sia
This song is just so raw and beautiful. Even through the build up and the climax of the song, you can not only hear the pain and longing in her voice, but you can feel it. Every time I hear it, I just can't help but cry. Significance.. It was the last song my best friend and my ex had me listen to before she passed away. I realized after the fact that it was her way of reaching out to me, but it was a little too late. And it became the song I listened to whenever I felt desperate too. "Although only breath, words which I command are immortal." Sappho

Concrete Angel - Martina McBride: There's so much emotion in this song. It gives me chills every time I hear it.
Better Now - Rascal Flatts: It just reminds me of myself. If I hadn't done some of the things I did, then "I wouldn't be bitter. I'd just be better now." The Last Night - Skillet: It's a reminder of what my best friend told me when she first found out about my silent struggles. She told me that I would never have to deal with things alone. That was a year before we started drifting. ![]() Gone Too Soon - Simple Plan: It reminds me of how close I came to losing my cousin. I started listening to a lot of songs about death because I was trying to numb myself to the idea of it. You have no idea how much it means to me that she lived, but this song still reminds me of what might have happened. There's a few others too, but I don't feel like listing them. |

Give Up The Ghost by Radiohead. I listened to this nonstop when I was having a suicidal episode and now I can't listen to it without reliving that time. :/
"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it." |

Stay by sugarland
I was so moved that this singer was just bawling her eyes out in front of a camera and took the time to write a song that about something that practically every one went through. Their used to be a time long ago where I was "that mistress" and the person that I had feelings for would always tell me everytime we talked one day I'll leave her and we'll be together and all this other bullcrap and I believed her whole heartedly. Their was one line in the song that really hit me:I'm up off my knees I'm so tired of being lonely you can't give me what I need That part was my wake up call that I couldn't go pinning after someone that's in a relationship and to move on with my life. my name is implusive, stubborn as a mule, funny, awesome, risk taker, random, dude whats yours?

Imaginary by Evanescence.
I used to be homeschooled and pretty much secluded. And I spent lots of my time looking up at the ceiling and daydreaming about better things, dealing with really bad nightmares, and writing about whole worlds full of people to make myself happy. Lots of imaginary friends, of a sort, in my stories, haha. But anyway, it really makes me cry sometimes, haha. ![]() It takes a long time to grow an old friend. - John Leonard |

"Like You" by Evanescence (and several other of their songs, such as "Surrender", "Breathe No More", and "Bleed"). It reminds me of the deep-rooted fears I have of my sister dying. I cry almost every time I listen to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oft35uIjeGU "You Can't Break A Broken Heart" by Kate Voegele. I know it's probably not meant to be sad, but it reminded me that my strength came partly from being broken so many times, and consequently reminded me of those times.
