Have you ever heard a song so beautiful it's reduced you to tears? - January 21st 2012, 01:24 AM

I hadn't until today. I never thought it possible to get so emotional over music but I was absolutely swept away by this song: Not Strong Enough by Apocalyptica feat. Brent Smith

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF0Hw...&lf=plpp_video

Have you ever been really moved by a song? If so which song was it? Did the lyrics play a big part?

---
- I'm not strong enough to stay away -
- and I wanna leave -
- and I wanna stay -
- And I'm so confused -
- So hard to choose between the pleasure and the pain -
---

I'd watch the link you posted, but it says it isn't available in the U.S.A.. =/

Normally for me, it's the choir singing it. Or the orchestra playing it. The one popish-song I've cried over was Blessings by Laura Story, it was the first time I heard it(at a Catholic youth retreat where she preformed a concert) and it reduced me to tears. The part that made me cry the most was "When friends betray us, when darkness seems to win we know, this pain reminds this heart, that this is not, this is not our home. It's not our home." That song just kinda sums everything up into words I never dreamed existed.<3

The song is Not Strong Enough - By Apocalytipica feat. Brent Smith

I can only imagine that music is so much more moving when you're there personally to experience it. I love it when you find those lyrics that perfectly sum up how you feel and what you're going through <3

Re: Have you ever heard a song so beautiful it's reduced you to tears? - January 21st 2012, 11:55 AM

Trying to find the words to reply to this is pretty tough, since it has happened more than a few times, but that doesn't make it common to me. It's a pretty special moment for me if this happens, and it does happen, but in different ways.

I remember my friend told me to listen to Defying Gravity from Wicked when we were at school. I said I'd do it later, but she forced me to listen to her iPod there and then. For about 5 minutes I just stared into space and my eyes were glazed over the entire time at how amazingly beautiful the song and performance is.

Jónsi's Go album has more than a few moments in which you feel moved to tears. Grow Till Tall's epic climax is so hypnotic and crushingly powerful that it is overwhelming, even more so in a live environment. I cried a few times watching his performance. Kolnidur had the same effect, but not so much on the CD. Tornado and Hengilas are beautiful too. As an extension, his band Sigur Rós have the same effect as well, especially their ( ) album.

Overwhelmingly, it happens everytime I hear a new Nightwish album/song. When I got my hands on Dark Passion Play I lay down on my bed and followed the lyrics for the whole 70 minutes, and I must've cried during half of the songs. Whether it was Tuomas's personal lyrics (Poet and the Pendulum) or just the sheer graniose of it all (Meadows of Heaven), it's impossible for me not to feel a personal connection to each Nightwish song which makes them all emotional in some way. I thought I was over my Nightwish obsession a little bit, but then I got the new album and Storytime just floored me. Probably the happiest tears I've ever had.

In the live environment, some songs that don't usually hit you can do it. I remember crying quite a bit listening to 21 Guns by Green Day live. There was something about 9,000 people singing along to an anthem of hopelessness which I seem to connect to something else in my head that just took over me. Same goes for The Only Exception by Paramore. Neither of them, while they are great songs, provoke an emotional reaction from me on record, but live they are incredibly moving.

I get very emotionally attached to music as a whole. I try to only listen to things that actually make me feel something, otherwise it just seems a little pointless. A teary reaction is often the most special.

A special nod has to be given to Elliott Smith's Between the Bars. Sure, Jónsi and Nightwish have special places in my heart, especially the latter, but Between the Bars hit me across the face with its massive heart and floored me the first time I heard it. First time I ever heard Elliott Smith, even.

There's a Japanese singer who can reduce me to tears; Takahashi Ai. She was part of a girl group but there are several clips of her performing solo, and they just move me so much.

For Good from Wicked was a killer for me. No matter how many times I listen to that song, it just brings all of my emotions out. I guess I found a personal attachment to the song, and it just always brings me back to that place.
Also Breathe Me by Sia. I think that song is absolutely amazing.
And Wake Up by Coheed and Cambria.
Lyrics play a huge part in it.

I'm not sure if I'm going away from what you mean by 'emotional' from a song.. But I remember when I saw my favorite band Coheed and Cambria for the 5th time I believe? And they played this one song.. The Light & The Glass. And I just cried. Even when I listen to the live recording, I cry. Lol. And out of all 10 times I've seen them, that was the only time they played it.

"Although only breath, words which I command are immortal." Sappho

"Sometimes I feel nothing at all. Sometimes I feel everything is my fault.
Sometimes I feel the hate break my mind. Sometimes I feel they deserve it this time.
May the bridges I burn light my way." - I, Alone - Otep

9 Crimes does it for me too. Truth Doesn't Make a Noise by the White Stripes didn't affect me that much until I heard this version. Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Pt. 1 made me bawl the first time I heard it, too.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

Comfortably Numb has done on numerous occassions. I'm not the only one, either; i've seen grown men reduced to tears as it has been played live. Also, for some reason, Thunderstruck by AC/DC, especially the Live at Donnington version does also, but that's more of an excitement and memories of seeing it thing. I get the butterflies and everything

I can't watch it in my country, but I've heard the song before! I used to be obsessed with Apocalyptica! They're still awesome, but I don't listen to them as much. Some songs have made me tear up, but never actually cry.

Though, a couple of songs that I love that make me gasp in awe are these:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K797y9mjM_w
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz6UKhxhu84 (I basically listened to this one for two days straight!)

Sorry for all of the links, I enjoy sharing music, a lot. .

"River Flows Into You" is amazing! I've learned a little on the piano, myself. It's way to difficult for a level 1, like me. I hear it's a level 10 piece.

Walking Her Home by Mark Schultz.
I'm Gonna Love You Through It by Martina McBride.

Those songs speak to me in a beautiful way that most songs don't.
