Question Singing? Please help! - April 30th 2009, 08:07 PM

Does anyone know how to sing? How to learn? Singing resources? I'm too self-conscious to take lessons see Specifically Trent Reznor-style rock singing. I'm mainly concerned with the sound of my voice, I always sound like a foreigner . On the breathing side I'm fine.

hi there, i do singing at college and have always been intrested in singing at a young age i also do song writting. i was a bit weiry at first about my singing but then everyone around me said i had something and that my voice was really good. maybe the best way is to join a music course that way you can build up and get better, if its something you enjoy and want to get better at then you should go for it. there are so many people that are scared about going and doing something they enjoy and if its a passion of yours then dont let anything get in the way of it.

when i was 7 they said i was strange
i noticed that my eyes and hair werent the same
i asked my parents if i was ok
they said your more beautiful
and thats the way

"id rather be hated for who i am than loved for who im not"

why is everything with you soo complicated,
why do you make it hard to love you oh i hate it,
cuz if you really wanna be alone,
i throw my hands up cuz baby i tried,
everything with you is soo complicated!

I know you said your okay with breathing, but really breathing is a huge part. Make sure to breath into your stomach and sing with your diaphram, not your throat. You shoulldn't change pitches with your throught, but with your head/diaphram. I know that doesn't really make sense, it's hard to explain. Even though you're too shy to take voice lessons, I can tell you that they really do help. Maybe you can start of watching lessons on youtube? Generallly those help some. But I would strongly reccommend voice lessons.

Don't worry I'm fine on breathing, I used to play the harmonica for a while. My main problem is my voice - while when I sing I hear plenty of low end and the words sound perfect, in reality it sounds thin and high-pitched and very "ee"-y if you see what I mean... I'll look up some videos now.

[EDIT] Actually mabye it was the breathing! I'm really out of practice! Still have pro-noun-ci-a-tion problems though...

Practice is diffently the key. Why dont you start singing songs and focus on the words trying to get them right like saying them right and making them sound the way there supposed to. You 17 so you might still be in highschool if you are why dont you join a choir itll help boost your confidence. I used to be very shy as well nobody had heard me sing but I need a music credit and now I love it. And the teacher really does teach you how to sing and breath how to say words if you let them.

Hope this helped.

I'm not too pushed to join the choir because it's an all-girls choir I would otherwise. But I've found my main problems are "r"'s (have never been able to pronounce them - my speech therapist gave up!) and vowels, so I'm working on those. I guess it's just a mater of practice as you say. It's infuriating though!

i would find a choir to join maybe a youth choir? you could go to a nearby church
then also maybe start recording yourself and seeing what improvements you need to make?

Done and it sounds horrible I've solved most of my major problems, but it still sounds like I'm adding W's to every consonant. Gah! This might take some time...
