Question List Some Good "Non-Teen" Music *Triggering?* - May 3rd 2009, 01:44 AM

I want some new music, but I don't want any of that emo rip my heart out, screamo, I loved you for a week now I'm hurt and my parents hate me music.

So can anyone name some good bands, ones I've probably never heard of. I don't like rap, but I have a stronger lean towards rock/metal and trance.

Yay, another music question

Well, you could always turn to some good old Classic Rock, such as AC/DC, Styx, Journey, The Eagles, etc.

Other than that, I could probably come up with more if I knew more music that you liked. What aboutttt... Muse? Bullet For My Valentine (although that might be considered "rip my heart out " music. Depends on your opinion).

Foo Fighters, possibly?
My Chemical Romance
Cute Is What We Aim For
Jimmy Eat World
The Used
Trust Company
Breaking Benjamin
Judas Priest
The Cure
Sum41
System Of a Down
Three Days Grace
Anberlin.

Okay, yeah. I think that's about all I've got... xD

Old school green day, and I'm talking about their punk, like, 10ish years ago, I'm a massive fan of muse, but they're a very acquired taste, but give them a go, you might like them. Buck Cherry is always good
And now for something completely different I love bands such as Belle and Sebastian, lifehouse, counting crows, Newton Faulkner, and they're a mix of acoustic, a little soft rock, and a genre I've taken to calling 'beautiful' Because, quite frankly, thats the first word that springs to mind when I listen to them.

I'm going to mention Amanda Palmer as she's one of the loves of my life
So yeah, Amanda Palmer and The Dresden Dolls. I think that her solo stuff is probably 'more mature' (ampersand, astronaut) but The Dresden Dolls have done a couple of my favourite songs (the perfect fit/bad habit/truce). They're diverse enough to have a song about pretty much anything you want. That said, i'm the only one I know who actually likes her/them, so you'll have to give it a listen and decide for yourself.

It means if someone comes here, they might be triggered by what you said. When I mentioned emo music, I might trigger something in someone. I'm just being safe.

I love old Linkin Park. Not so much Slipknot, or screamo with lots of drums.

No. I don't feel like Slipknot is an intelligent form of music. It just gives off that evil feeling, with no intelligence. Like there's no reason why they are acting the way they are. I like maybe one or two songs, but that's it.

I don't know how much you'll like them:

Dragonforce (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmU2R9lTivY)

Rob Zombie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kUNpyvmU7Q)

Disturbed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2GXC7Vgmu4)

Not sure exactly which bands you may or may not like. None of those emo music (cant stand that stuff either) nor rap.

It is hard to recommend some good, mainstream hard rock because all hard rock now is just garbage post-grunge.

I'll go a little older than that though, and suggest some Diamond Head, ore 80s Judas Priest. Both good metal off the top of my head. I have some other bands, when I get home I will search through my iTunes library.

If you like rock then what about all the 80s rock stuff.
Bon Jovi
Whitesnake
Rainbow
KISS - Gene Simmons and Ace Frehley are good solo too
Gamma Ray - their cover of It's a sin is good
Sex Pistols
Alice Cooper
Meatloaf
Fairyland, For My Pain and Angtoria (if you like the power/symphonic metal stuff)
Dragonforce
Dream Evil
You could check out the punk goes... albums they have lots of unheard bands on.
Goldfinger

I'm sure I have more but that's all I can think of atm

I second (third?) Dragonforce.
If you're into trance, the obvious suggestion from there is Infected Mushroom. You can also try old-school Daft Punk for that vibe. Also DJ Shadow (check out Organ Donor by him. It blew my mind.)
You can also go to www.goatranceradio.com for a bunch of streaming trance radio. You get great variety. And since you're in the USA, you've also got www.pandora.com at your disposal. I found a bunch of wicked music there.

Infected Mushroom is amazing ^ I must also suggest DJ Cotts, you can download his music for free on his website.
Here's my current list of to-download music:

Angelspit
Azoic
Ayria
Emilie Autumn
Headhunterz
Helalyn Flowers
I:Scintilla
Jakalope
Showtek
Zombie Girl

Aside from Showtek and Headhunterz, they're more on the industrial/electronica/grunge side in my opinion. Showtek and Headhunterz are hardstyle, might not like them, but you never know.

Honestly I'm a country girl myself, but some of the classics are good.
Queen
Linkin' Park
3 Doors Down
The Beatles
Peter,Paul, and Mary
Green Day
AC/DC
Pink Floyd.

I wouldn't be surprised if you already know of Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer. You can't ask for much more in the way for musical/lyrical genius, and they're all progressive/alternative rock bands so I have a feeling you might be into them. If you don't know of them though, hit me back and I'll tell you some specific songs to check out.

I'm also a massive fan of:
Death Cab For Cutie
Say Hi (formerly Say Hi To Your Mom)
The Perishers

- all have beautifully unique sounds and profound, relatable lyrics. Enjoy!

...but I'd trade it all for just a little piece of mind.
