Books That Have Been Made Into Films - July 13th 2009, 12:20 AM

Well I really like to read books if I've seen them on film. I don't know why but if I see a good film that came from a book I'll want to read the book. I read The Notebook because I saw the film and now I've just ordered Marley and Me because I've been watching the film (sniffles). So I'd like to see what other books have been made into films.

Most Stephen King Books.....room 1408 is brilliant, if you like scary-ish films.

Or Bridget Jones Diary....thats great as well.

Hiya Cara,

well the twilight and harry potter series have/are being made into films.

I think the book "cut" is being made into a film soon.

There's actually a lot of films based off books:

The Da Vinci Code
Angels and Demons

umm there are some others, but i can't really think of them. sorry. If i think of any more I'll post again. =)

Take care,

-the sister hood of the traveling pants
-charlie and the chocolate factory
-series of unfortunate events
-memoirs of a geisha

that's all I got

I'd go as far as to say that a great majority of films are based on books.

Definitely true.
You've probably seen a lot of movies that are based off of books and just don't know it, since it's unfortunately impossible to read every good book in the world :/
I did think of another though: The Secret Life of Bees, which is an amazing movie.

The Road is coming out! It's going to be so cool, but I don't think it is going to look as dreary and hopeless as it did in the book.

The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas! Amazing film, great book.
V for Vendetta is based on a graphic novel, which sort of counts as a book.
The Hunchback Of Notre Dame is also a book by Victor Hugo.

Lately I haven't liked books that have been turned into movies.

Bridge to Terabithia was an amazing book and they turned it into a "fantasy." The movie doesn't have any of those mythical creatures. It's a story that teaches of death, growing up, life... They messed that up.

Anything by Jane Austen, but most notably:
- Persuasion (2007 version)
- Pride & Prejudice (2005 version)
- Sense & Sensibility (1995 version)

Also can't wait for The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde to make it to the big screen!

...but I'd trade it all for just a little piece of mind.

The Kite Runner (amazing book, okay movie)
The Bourne Identity and it's sequels (books are great, movies pretty good)
I Capture the Castle (both were good, but book slightly better)
The princess diaries (the movie was a lot different from the book)
Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants (both book and movie pretty good)

Then there are all the school type books with movies like Brave New World, 1984, the Chocolate War, the Outsiders, Lord of the Flies, and Of Mice and Men. None of which had movies that lived up to the book in my opinion.

Prozac Nation(focus on depressive tendencies of an american girl while she is in university), Running with Scissors (drama about a young boy growing up with a crazy mum), Stranger Than Fiction (comedy that makes you think)

A lot of books by Bret Easton Ellis:

The Rules of Attraction: I love both of the versions.
American Psycho: I haven't read the book, but the movie is disturbing.

A time to kill By John Grisham( might be triggering?) Movie was way better in my opinion.
The color purple By Alice Walker (might be triggering as well)
A lot of other John Grisham novels as well (http://crime.about.com/od/books/tp/movies_grisham.htm)
Their eyes were watching god (Haven't finished the movie but in my opinion the book was a lot better)

Thats all I can think of right now

I thought that film was terrible.
I loved the books and then the film was just so embarrasing..

The Darren Shan saga was an amazing books series but the film looks terrible and it isn't even out yet, they have changed way to much and they have dumbed it down and Americanized it. I cannot wait to rant after I have seen it.

A lot of people I know are angry about the change of ending in My sisters keeper. I was worried when I went to see it but I thought the film ending was actually better than the book, it was much more realistic.

Boy in the stiped pajamas was one of the best book to film movies I have seen in a while.

Add Alexandre Dumas' 'The Count of Monte Cristo' to the list.
