The Autistic Me... - August 11th 2009, 09:13 PM

Okay, I'm not sure whether this should go in this forum or not, so staff feel free to move it.

Anyways, I saw this documentary tonight about three young men on the spectrum and all the difficulties they had to face in their daily lives. I absolutely loved it, although I did find that the presence of the cameras sometimes seemed a bit intrusive at times. I have always thought that people should be more knowledgeable where autism is concerned and I thought this program was great at informing people who may not know very much about it.

Did anyone else catch it? If so, what did you think?

MTV's show True Life did an episode called "I Have Autism". It was a pretty well-done episode. I haven't seen "The Autistic Me", though.

I'm just about to watch it now. BBC3 seems to be just about all I watch these days.

You can watch it on BBC iplayer.

Someone I know actually knows one of the people in the documentary somehow, which is quite cool.

It's a really enlightening programme.

I think a lot of people completely mis-understand autism. It would seem your average joe knows Rainman and that's all their knowledge on autism.

I enjoyed it. (:

I watched a show about a family that had 6 kids with autism and all the kids were on different points of autism spectrum (that sounds wrong). It was really interesting and it gave me more insight into it.

And, I think that having more shows about autism and what not would be such a great idea because people really do misunderstand it.
