Favourite Metal Genre? -
September 1st 2009, 12:48 AM
After the whole genre-subgenre arguement in another thread, I was just quickly wondering what "type" of metal everyone finds best (of course throw in favourite bands too, always good to find new bands)
For me it's Power Metal- with the two bands I think best at it being Blind Guardian and Sabaton. The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point is to change it.

Folk metal (y) (I was waiting for a thread like this to pop-up xD)
Bands like Skyclad and Korpiklaani are great (y) 'And in the garden, lust began The animal instinct, the wanton man She fed him with a hunger, an appetite And fillin' with emotion he took a bite' Def Leppard - Women |

Keady- all great bands (although I've not heard of the last guys). Have to say I'm a big Korpiklaani fan.
Out of intrest have either of you ever heard of an extreme/folk metal band called Equilbrium? They're fantastic. The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point is to change it.

I heard one of their songs on last.fm, they're currently on my download list (y) From what I heard they are excellent though.

I voted Doom Metal.
Swallow the Sun and My Dying Bride. Stoner Metal is really my favorite, and it most roughly falls under Doom Metal. Men of Porn and Lowrider And also, Crowbar, Down and Corrosion of Conformity could be said to be Doom-ish (As far as other bands I love: Pantera, Morbid Angel, Epica, Korpiklaani, Kataklysm, Death, Opeth. To name a few) ~Cody

I like most genres of metal apart from Black/Death/Doom etc.but I'd have to say it's a close tie between gothic metal, nu-metal and heavy metal.

I chose heavy metal, since I like some heavy metal bands, but it's far from my favorite genre.
I'm not very familiar with a lot of those genres, though.

Mine would've been Metalcore so I chose other.
I just love when a band can have good, clear metal instrumentals (with screaming of course, lol). That's not to say that I don't love Nu-metal and other types (Korn holds a place in my heart), but most of my favorite bands fall under the Metalcore category. I saw this thread and I knew it would be you Jamie. My psychic powers are that amazing.
I was tempted to pick "i don't like metal but I like to vote in polls" but I thought I might be disowned if I did (: Plus I wanted to chose about five different options... in the end I settled for Folk Metal because I'm listening to Tyr at the moment and they've put me in a good mood (: You are the one, the one who lies next to me, Whispers "hello, I missed you quite terribly" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ |

I am not a big metal fan but I pick up a few bands from my boyfriend who is obsessed with metal. My favourite metal bands are Dragonforce and Nightwish so I chose Power Metal.

As for the metalcore thing- I probably could've added that, but again ran out of options. Hardcore I personally see as part of it's own style as it seems to have so many of it's own sub-genres it could easily standalone in some regards. Black Metal isn't my favourite genre by a fair bit. Rach- I'm not a fan of Sylosis of Glamour of the Kill, but Sabaton I love- whether you'd enjoy them is another things. Songs you want to check out are probably: Primo Victoria, 40:1, Talvisota, Metal Machine, Attero Dominatus, Metal Crue, The Art Of War and Ghost Division (That goes for anybody!) I voted doom, although I do listen to quite a bit of what would probably fall under 'progressive metal'.

I think that'd be under other. BFMV is Metalcore but I think Disturbed and Slipknot could go with either Nu metal or Heavy (I'm not trying to be by-the-books accurate, those are just the genres I see them as). As for SOAD I don't really see them as metal.

I'm not really that into metal and googled the list of metal genres to see some example bands.
Apparently KISS, Guns and Roses, Bon Jovi and Alice Cooper are all Glam/hair metal so I picked that option since I like a lot of bands like that. ![]() |

I think operatic / symphonic metal is absolutely brilliant. Nightwish and Within Temptation are two of my favourite bands, and others like Xandria, Sonata Arctica and Epica are great as well.
The atoms that make up you and me were born in the hearts of suns many times greater than ours and in time our atoms will return once again to reside amongst the stars. Life is but an idle dalliance of the cosmos, frail, and soon forgotten. We have been set adrift in an ocean whose tides we are only beginning to comprehend, and with that maturity has come the realization that we are, at least for now, alone. In that loneliness, it falls to us to shine as brightly as the stars from which we came.
