what musician inspired you to start playing music?

for me doing death metal vocals would be randy blythe.

but i also am a vocal percussionist/beatboxer. (whatever the difference is) but i just started doing that for random beats for some friends when they did some rap or whatever.

Hmm... Different musicians inspire different parts of me. When it comes to music in general, I have to say Angels and Airwaves simply because the music behind their lyrics just makes me want to get on stage.
Also, Index Case. Because their creepy rock/sometimes considered metal is way different and I want to make music like that.
God I don't know who insipers me most!
Other bands that make me want to make music and preform it, Blue October, Areosmith, The Distillers (i wanna be like Brody!! old brody. not new brody), Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Chevelle... lots. They all inspire me in different ways that if mixed all together would make quite a song eh? XP

Then there's just the random song here and there that makes me think a lot then go "Why can't I write a song like that!!?!? "

and ive heard of like a few bands you listed. like the who, led zeppelin, black sabbath, and areosmith.

Jeff Buckley. He was the first artist that I listened to and thought "holy shit this guy actually means what he is playing". When I listen to music now, I appreciate it the most when I can connect with the band, not just enjoy the music. He basically caused me to want to play music, I remember wanting to be him, singing with the passion that he had and creating the same hopeless atmosphere in his songs.

I've been playing guitar for about a year and a half now. Many artists have inspired me but my biggest inspiration was Slash, from Guns n' Roses. He may not be the *best* guitar player in terms of technique and such, but you can just hear the soul and passion in his guitar playing.

I was never really inspired...

I was forced into piano lessons by my parents. Then randomly decided to play trombone in band.

But I do appreciate music now much more than I did then.

I was forced into piano as well, but I grew to love it after a few years.

I started learning cello when I was 8 and it is my love.

I started learning to sing last year as well, it's really, really fun! (Opera, would you believe)

I mostly play guitar now. But all kinds, of course and obviously rock and metal on my own time, but I played in the Jazz Band and the show chior's pit band last year (and plan on this year), was forced to play country once (ew), and am very serious about my private classical lessons. Like, by the time summer break comes around I plan on having real gigs. (apparently I'm playing pro level peices? idk lol)
Then there's the random instrament I picked up when I was younger, violin for a few years, clarinet for one (the want lasted half a year lol), and randomly playing keyboard without real lessons so I don't think that counts. I was also in chior for most of my life, but recently quit that too cause 1, i need more space in my schedule and 2, I refuse to wear the somewhat short, sleeveless dresses on stage in front of my parents and everyone So now I only sing alone in my car lol cause I sing along to rock and metal and honestly, there are very few girls who can actually pull that off in my opinion. I'm not one of them. lol

My parents actually don't want me playing much guitar. They like that I'm serious about Classical and that I messed around with Jazz, but they don't like it when I play rock type stuff. (though to be fair, that may be because I turn up my amp loud enough the neighbors can hear. lol yeah I'm obnoxious.)

i did play guitar for a while. but i just didnt get into it.
but rock and metal music is fun.
but when i do vocal percussion i play all kinds of music. anything from classical/jazz, hip hop, and techno lol.
but its all fun for me. my parents dont really care about it.

My parents honestly think I'm gonna be a waitress all my life because I want to be a musician. :P So they just want me to be sucessful. (little do they know, I honestly think if I succumbed to the quiet little suburban life with a nice little family and a nice little job, I'd literally go insane.)

I'm constantly told that by age 30 I'll compeltely change my mind and want a family.

I don't think near as many people really want that life. I can't imagine it. Yes, I know not everyone's like me but seriously... So many people who want to be something fun when they 'grow up' just give up on their dreams and get a nice little normal job. That's what my dad did. My mom just never had dreams lol (eh i shouldn't laugh at that. oh well. we never get along)

Nothing really inspired me to start playing piano, I just did. But I remember listening to muse, butterflies and hurricanes, and it made me want to excel at playing.
I started french horn because my friend asked me to join band with her Then I got to play in concerts, and opening for lord of the rings and james bond music concerts, and I loved being part of such an extraordinary sound. Wind band, just fyi.
And bass I started probably because of all that rock I was into xD

For me, it was listening to music so much I started to imagine it whenever I wasn't concentrating on something else. Eventually I decided that I'd give it a go and see if I can make what I'm hearing, and I've been surprised just how easy creating music is.

I've all but given up on the production side of it (it's impossible to combine engineering and art!) but I love just sitting down at my synth, spending an hour or so creating a song and then just walking away from it.... some people think that's a bit wasteful, but I think that it doesn't matter if art exists eternally or just for a fleeting moment, it's still there, and you've still experienced it...

Agreed. There's something about Slash that sets him apart from other musicians. I'd love to be able to play like him.

For me, though, it was Green Day who made me pick up the guitar. My dad started teaching me their songs and from that day on I fell in love with my guitar.

well im a guitarist and i think it was slash and frank iero even though i've just gotten into that music last year and ive been playing since i was 8,,,
but i wasnt fourced or anything,,, but then i lost interest =/
then heard the passion behind guitarists like slash,, frank iero and other guitarists and realised that i wanted to keep with it and to be as good as i can...
and also the drummer in green day made me learn how to play drums,,
im still not that good but it was deffinatly an insperation xD
