Cover Versions - January 30th 2009, 02:49 PM

In case someone doesn't know a cover version is a song done at a later date by someone else.

Now for the most part they generally hairy boulders but there are some exceptions - so here is the question I pose:

Which cover versions do you think are better than the originals?

For me I am putting using Song Title - Artist - (Original Artist)

Rasputin - Turisas - (Boney M)
All along the watchtower - Jimi Hendrix Experience - (Bob Dylan)
Guns n Roses - Knocking on Heaven's Door - (Bob Dylan)
Still Loving you - Sonata Arctica - (Scorpions)

If you like you can also list the worst covers although this may have been done in another topic

Chop Suey - Avril Lavigne - (SOAD)
More than A Feeling - Nsync - (Boston)

Valerie - Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse.

I bet we're going to get people saying R.U.T.H. by Placebo, I shudder at the thought.

WORST cover has to go to avril lavigne and the scientist.. not impressed.. at all. she murdered one of my favourite coldplay songs. natasha bedingfields version on the other hand is pretty dam good.

Ewww how is that better?

And doesn't it defeat the purpose of the song with it being sung by what I assume is a male voice. The whole song's about a girl experimenting with her sexuality...

What about "I Kissed a Boy" by Cobra Starship? That's a great song.

I usually don't like cover songs very much, unless the original sucked and the cover was much better. I can't actually think of an example...
I like the song "Beat It" when it's a good cover because Michael Jackson's voice is high and not very powerful, so I don't really like the original. (That was not an example of my first statement, I'm not saying the original sucked. I just said I didn't like it)

Um as for worst covers.... probably many of Cascada's covers. Such as "What Hurts The Most"-- Rascal Flatts was so much better.

Haha xD I have to agree with this one, I absolutely cannot stand it. She just ruined the song.

I liked this cover version when it first came out, but now because people just keep playing and playing it, I just don't like it anymore. I only like Jeff Buckley's, Rufus Wainwright's and I've only heard some of Kate Vogele's version of it.
