Of Mice and Men or to Kill a Mockingbird?

Ok, I got my book list for next year, and I'm reeeeally annoyed because for English I thought we would be reading To Kill A Mockingbird, but instead my English teacher picked Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck Is this a good book? I tried reading Grapes of Wrath but I thought it was awful =/ Any Opinions, anyone?

You can always read the other books in your spare time. To kill a mockingbird is defiantly worth reading, and once you get through the first few chapters, an easy read too. I don't know about the other ones

I love Of Mice and Men The problem was we took about two terms to read the damn thing ¬____¬ My teacher just dragged it out as much as possible. I remember being off sick for two weeks, my teacher was panicking as I was behind, give me the book to read at home. I finished reading it all in two days. The film is also good

We read Of Mice and Men for our GCSE English.

I loved it. It was boring reading in class, but when I took it home to read in my own place where I could concentrate I thought it was a really good book.

To Kill A Mockingbird. Easily better than Of Mice And Men, to me anyway.

However, Of Mice And Men is still a really good book so don't be too disappointed.

Of Mice and Men is a great book to study in your English class. Like basically everyone in this thread, we studied it at my school too and I fairly enjoyed it for a text I read in school. Go into it with an open mind, especially if it's not your usual style of book, and I'm sure you'll take something from the experience.

I read Of Mice and Men when I was in High school. I really enjoyed it. I also watched the movie and saw a play. It was like, really good!

Be thankful you do not have to read "To Kill a Mockingbird", that is one of the worst novels I have ever read, extremely dry, I felt like slitting my wrists by the end of the first page.

I personally hated Of Mice and Men, but I absolutely loved To Kill A Mockingbird. It's all a matter of personal taste combined with the fact that you must read it whether you like it or not.

I loved To Kill a Mockingbird, personally. It starts off incredibly boring, but after the first chapter or two I really got into it. Excellent book.

Had to read Of Mice and Men a couple of years ago. TBH I don't remember the actual book, I just remember watching the character Lenny in the film who for some reason I found hilarious...?

I had to read To Kill A Mockingbird for English and I hated it but that's just my opinion. I do recommend Of Mice And Men, it is an easy read and is quite funny.

Yep, same here, i had to read both books for English Literature when i was at school, had to watch both films in class too, pretty sweet. The two books have fantastic characters and i loved both of them but To Kill A Mockingbird is the only one i've read several times again since leaving school, its brilliant.

To Kill A Mockingbird is rather dull to me. Jim Crow era Southern culture is very boring, I have been saturated by it throughout my academic career. Of Mice and Men is much more moving in my opinion. More desperation, more compelling characters.

I think of Mice and Men is a pretty good book.. chances are you would've had to read it eventually anyway since it's a classic. I personally think To Kill a Mockingbird is better.. but, it's one of my favorite classics so I'm biased. :]

I really liked both, but I probably have to pick To Kill A Mockingbird. The beginning was kinda slow, but when the trial started going on, I was pretty consumed in it.

I didn't really like either. But they're both easy reads, and do have some interesting discussion starters in them. Of Mice and Men is incredibly quick; I think I finished it in a day or so.

of mice and men is a really good book, but when you have to re-read and re-read and re-read and re-read... and do tonnes of eassays on it, it gets a little boring aha!
But you will enjoy it im sure

I read To Kill A Mockingbird this year, and I loved it.
Warning though that it's the type of book you either love or hate.
There's no middle section. It's pretty black and white.

I really really enjoyed it though.
The first part moves a little bit slow, and it doesn't get "good" until closer to the middle, but don't give up because the book is well worth it.

I go with To Kill A Mockingbird all the way.
