Ecliptica - Sonata Arctica

I was going to suggest Lest We Forget, but that probably counts as death metal.

I actually don't know how to tell whether or not something is death metal. Most my stuff is metal.

Yeah, most my stuff is metal too...

Otherwise, a Billy joel album is good for solo stuff...for more upbeat stuff, Hot Hot Heat are good. The Hoosiers, The Fratellis and Blur are also very good bets for good, quality music.

The Dreaming - Kate Bush
Very alternative, not one song is the same, it is all very quirky and unique, lots of different song meanings/themes. She's very under-appreciated nowadays, in my opinion. I'd really recommend it.

I like Sam's Town or Hot Fuss from The Killers. Really catchy, great stuff. Had to resist myself from playing it so much.

Either that, or any of the Muse albums. Very very very good band.

How about Boyz II Men? I'm Listening to their Legacy album atm, so felt like recommending it :]

Hot Pink - The Pink Spiders, is very good. Anything else by them, too.
Anything by The Offspring is always good.

last.fm?
They have full tracks for some albums, but that defeats the purpose of getting an album me thinks! There are also 30 second previews of some songs too.

AEnema by Tool (Prog rock)
Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd (Psychedelic/Prog rock)
Master of Puppets by Metallica (Thrash Metal)

Sample these before you buy, I have an obscure taste in music.

Jack's Mannequin- the Glass Passenger
or
Cocunut Records- Nightiming. (Jason Shwartzman's band, very alt/indie)

Deliverance by Corrosion of Conformity

I got this CD for Christmas and haven't stopped listening since. It is an amazing album. It is metal, but there are no harsh screams, growls, grunts or rasps to be found. I assume that's what you meant when you said no death metal? Even still, it doesn't have the same type of music. It has a very southern rock/metal type feel to it, with just a touch of punk and sludge metal thrown in. Extremely highly recomended.

"Being dark and positive at the same time, very catchy riffs, excellent bass and drum work make Deliverance a must have for any music fan that enjoys groove metal, sludge metal or even classic Southern rock. Even though some parts could have potentially been reworked to make the flow of the record a bit stronger and the band was still trying to find it's own sound, it remains a staple heavy metal album of the 1990's in a time when alternative rock was dominating the airwaves and this kind of music was less than well received." ~Exerpt from Sputnik Music review.

Agreed, Hot Fuss is awesome!

I could recommend some Franz Ferdinand too, but that's because I'm obsessed with them. Self-titled album is awesome. Or Employment by the Kaiser Chiefs, it's cool too. Maybe A Fever you can't sweat out by PATD or Whatever people say I am, that's why I'm not; by Arctic Monkeys.-

You could also buy Achtung baby by U2, it's the best thing ever. And A Hard day's night by The Beatles, it's awesome.

From what I've read of your music taste's, you and I have a very similar taste in music. So hopefully I'm on the right track here!

So, my personal reccomendation is: Bowling For Soup - The Great Burrito Extorsion Case

Its their most recent album so you should be able to pick it up from somewhere like HMV or Zavvi.

BFS are pop-punky. They are very up-beat and they're lyrics are so funny yet they all relate to real issues. That particular album has a lot of up-beat tunes as well as some slower more meaningful ones as well. They are very easy to listen to, with some good guitar solo's and always gaurenteed to make you smile.

I swear it, every time I feel down/low if I put on some BFS I'm right as rain in no time at all. I would definately reccomend them.

I also know that they are great guys too, as I do a lot of their promo work in order to gain special privs like meeting them back-stage after gigs and stuff. So I've met them twice now and they are truely amazing.

Here is a pic of me with the band at the sound-check before their live show at Nottingham's Rock City in February 2007:

I'd say though the CD's old as ever like 1999or before its chee. Toy-Box, that CD's a fun techno like dancy CD and it's feelgood

I'd suggest:
Good News for People who love Bad news or The Moon and Anctartica by Modest Mouse

Animals, Wish you Were Here, The Wall, The Division Bell, or Dark Side of The Moon By Pink Floyd

Beautiful Freak, Shootenanny! or Electro-shock blues by The Eels.
