Windows Vista - January 13th 2009, 09:12 AM

I was just wondering what everyone elses opinion on Windows Vista is. Windows Vista came pre-installed on my PC. (I have a dell that I had made for me by Dell) and vista was the only OS they could load on it. My computer never run like it should have with the space and the amount of ram that it had so I decided to put windows xp on the PC and delete vista. now my computer ha run faster than it ever has... so I think that supports my theory that vista is a resource hog..

Vista is simply Microsoft's biggest screwup/failure. Period.

Hence why they're pushing the Windows 7 beta... well not really but why Windows 7 is following so hard on Vista's heels.
Although ppl say Windows 7 is like Vista but just with a few tweaks =/.

Re: Windows Vista - January 13th 2009, 04:17 PM

Well I got Vista a year ago pre installed on my acer laptop, 1 year later its still perfect and I am a heavy user, well not huge, but probably between 6-10 hours a day... It does everything quickly and effectively, it runs games, ie Spore, which strictly with the system requirement it shouldnt. Thats the thing for me... I seem to be one of the few people out there going out there praising it, but I can honestly say its perfect... Well not perfect but in a years use, no problems!

I actually quite like it. It runs smoothly on my computer - I've never had any real trouble with it - no complaints to be honest. 7 is much better though, feature wise./

Windows Me was worse

And since windows 7 is essentially a fix for vista it had better be better.

Vista kept freezing/wouldn't shut down and had loads of bsod's. So I switched to Kubuntu and have never looked back

I totally agree with you... I hate Vista... I had to downgrade because I hated it so much... it is just too much BS to an OS.

Eh, all the people that say "vista suxxx" kind of annoy me.

You have to have the RAM, yes. And there were issues if it didn't come preinstalled. I run it, and it's fine.

For the person who said it was Microsoft's worst screw up, you obviously haven't ever tried to use a computer with ME.

Lol. Vista is basically ME with a pretty skin on it Vista is like "Please wait while I attempt to load all of 3 icons on your desktop... This may take a few decades." or "Are you sure you want to run this program?" and ME is like "Welcome to... BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!"

Re: Windows Vista - January 14th 2009, 06:50 PM

Agreed its annoying always being asked if i want to do anything admin wise on the pc, but when i have my desktop icons displayed i have 2/3rds of the screen full of them, and no official times, but my vista goes from off to ready to use in under a minute.

I think for some it depends on the build but also what combination of hardware you use... For me its just awesome though! =]

I completely agree. The system sucks, in my opinion. My family has one, and it does nothing but fail. It can't even use microsoft word without crashing, which is why I have my little macbook. ^^

Re: Windows Vista - January 16th 2009, 01:58 PM

Well as I said certain hardware runs it well, certain hardware doesnt, same with some games too, a certain game I was looking at required a 256mb gfx card and yet there were people with 1gb gfx cards who couldnt run it... Agreed it was a failure in that not working with some hardware, but unless you are one of those people who has the correct system requirements, and it still doesnt work properly, you cant honestly say it sucks, as Alex said...

Remember to run the full version of work with contextual spelling (whatever that is =/) You need 1gb of ram!!! Thats mad :L...

And @ Talia... grr I wanna MacBook... but theyre waay too expensive!

That's more likely to be a hardware issue than Vista's fault. I have a relatively high spec system and Office loads in 2 seconds.

My Toshiba laptop came pre-installed with Vista and it runs fine. I just disabled all the little things that bug me lol.

It's terrible. It came pre-installed on my laptop and even from the first day things kept freezing left, right and centre. And now it wont even open itunes without crashing so badly that I have to restart the computer.

I've got Windows 7 and it's much better than vista, although don't even consider installing it unless you back up regularly and want to reinstall your OS in august.

Vista came installed on my Hp laptop and I didn't even realize it was vista for quite a while. I rather like it though. And it runs pretty great.

If you have the hardware for it it runs like a dream! But its not all that great for lower end computers like ones with a celeron processor 1gig of ram and a crapy onboard video card. I have to say i like it alot on my system with 4gigs of ram a 256mb video card a dual core processor.

Vista drove me nuts to the point where I was forced to downgrade back to XP. I hate it.

Mind you, ME was worse...

It's fine if you don't cut-back on the hardware.

To everyone speaking about hardware bear in mind that Vista, except for a few top end users, will have forced you to upgrade parts/all of your computer. The best thing vista did was to drive down these prices such that DDR2 RAM is pretty cheap now.

Kubuntu ftw
