Ebay opened a case on an unpaid for item - June 20th 2012, 06:15 AM

Help me please. I was buying a game from a person on ebay, and then I won! Yay! But then they said their paypal was down and to buy it, I had to send the payment to a paypal account that was not connected to ebay. Obviously being smarter than falling for a possible scam, I messaged them back, 3 or so times in fact (not harrassingly), saying that I refused to pay outside of ebay and if there was no other way then I would not buy the item as I was not comfortable with that. And I left it at that. Well they never replied and never replied, and now I get an email saying that ebay has opened a case on an unpaid item and that I have until the 23rd to pay or I might get my account suspended. This isn't fair, and Idk what to do, the seller is the one who's possibly trying to scam me and I could get suspended for it?! Pleasssseee help!!!!

I would email ebay support and tell them your situation. Inform that the buyer wanted you to pay for a method outside of Ebay. Part of buying on ebay is to feel safe doing so, if you don't feel safe and feel suspicious at all let them know about and I'm sure they're help you.

As suggested, contact Ebay via E-mail or if there's a number on their contact page (which may be a bit faster that e-mail) and let them know the situation, they should help you out since their customer services usually are quite good.

I would contact eBay and explain the situation to them. I can understand you not wanting to pay for it outside of eBay, my parents use it and have been scammed out of money before so it's always better to do it the safer way. You've contacted the buyer repeated and they didn't bother to reply so if anyone is in the wrong, it's them for failing to contacting you in regards to you not wanting to pay them that way. Just explain the whole of it to eBay and I'm sure it'll get sorted properly.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Contact them and explain. I had an argument with ebay that involved my account being suspended for about 4 months because they didn't inform me if something I put on sale there didn't sell, I still had to pay for it to be advertised. (I'd asked someone on their chat thing and they apparently got it wrong)
So I got all these emails demanding like 1.50 from me. And I tried to talk to them and explain I was told I wouldn't have to pay so I wasn't going to. They suspended my account anyway and eventually I gave in and paid up.

I know a few people who have had suspended accounts so just opened up new ones, it's really not a big deal. Explain to them and hopefully they'll listen to you.

Okay I called tonight and I basically understood absolutely none of that :/ But what I did understand is that they aren't going to repeal thae case. And that they doubt my account will be suspended but it will be put on record that I' didn't pay for an item.

Anna if I may ask,

Do you also sell items on that account or just buy? If your only buying items from ebay and not selling, if the case "goes on your record" it might lower your percentage but buyers don't really care about the score and it won't affect too much.

If you sell you can always get another account or use a friend or family members account.

I would try though and continue to tell ebay again that the seller wanted you to pay for the item outside of ebay and therefore shouldn't be your fault at all. Continue to try see if you can resolve this and if not think about the above points I made on how it won't affect you being able to buy things on ebay.
