Will you use Windows 7 - January 11th 2009, 01:38 PM

What it says on the tin really. When the full version (not the beta) comes out will you use as your main operating system?

Please take the eventual cost of maintenance and purchasing into account

I tried the beta for a while; I would have kept it, but my Mcafee software wasn't working with it, which in turn caused half my programs to become blocked from the internet (go figure).

I'll wait until the final release, but I'll certainly get it.

I'm still using the beta version, and to be honest, I really like it. Sure it's a bit buggy, but it's beta. I mentioned to a friend a short while ago that depending on the cost, I may consider actually buying it (opposed to other means of using it).

I'm getting issues with McAfee too, but I ran the installer in compatibility mode (Vista) and it installs. It did give me a lot of "This program has known compatibility issues, would you like to continue" messages, which it does every time you open security center, but other than that it seems to running okay - running a full scan now.

^^

Yeah I used the compatibility mode via Vista as well. It installed and ran fine, but I couldn't get the firewall to allow certain programs to access the internet (even though I told it to).

Oh well. Hopefully by the second beta, and obviously the full release, that'll all be fixed up. Everything else worked fine; I liked it heaves above Vista.

Come to think of it, I've not done anything in terms of firewall. I installed and went straight to scanning. The "Maintain Computer" section caused it to crash, but nothing from firewall. In Vista, it asked me to authorise even Firefox on first run, but nothing in 7.

Just for the record I may run it on final release, depends on cost (I don't like getting software through illegitimate means due to security) and what DRM they install.

Kubuntu will remain my number one OS though

nope I will not I anticipate it to be a resource hog like Windows Vista, so I will stick with good old reliable XP when I had vista it would crash at least once every 2 to 3 days... now that I have XP on the same PC... hasn't crashed in weeks...

It's like.... Vista, pretty much. With extra doohickeys.
If it comes pre loaded on a computer im probably getting it but, i'm fine with Vista right now. ^^

I've not tried it at all, and I wouldn't be against trying it, but I'm still moving to Mac when I get a new computer. The laptop I have now works fine with XP so there's no need to upgrade this one, and a Mac is really more suited to what I need at uni. Still, if I end up going PC again and it comes as standard, I'll definitely give it a fair shot before installing XP. There's no way I'd buy anything with Vista on it.

Cake, just not Battenberg.

Anyway, I don't see the point in upgraded or whatever, I'm happy with XP.

I wouldn't've gotten Vista if I didn't get it as a free upgrade when I bought the OEM edition of XP Professional. Not long after having Vista I Switched to a Mac though... Wonder why :P
I'll probably try Windows 7 some time; I have the beta running in VMware Fusion, but I'd hate to go back to Windows as main OS

Running Kubuntu on one machine, XP on the other. I like to have a Linux and a Windows, and I was never happy with Vista.

I like the look of 7, but I'll wait for the final release, and the final verdict.
