Messenger Error? - April 23rd 2009, 11:46 PM

For some reason, I have not been able to log into MSN, YIM, or AIM over the last few months. Every time I log into either, I receive an error message along the lines of:

"Windows Messenger/AIM/YIM has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

Any advice on what I should do? Thanks in advance.

Hmmm I would say try deleting the programs then re-installing them.

I tried to do that with YIM, but I still get the same messenger. I am pretty sure I do not have a virus on my laptop.

Did you try re-setting your user name and/or password?
Also, did you try logging in on another computer? If you can't log in anywhere else, it's your user name/password that's the trouble. If you can log in on other computers but not on your own, it's your specific laptop and/or downloaded program.

You might not have a VIRUS, but you might have a virus SCANNER. They can cause alot of problems. Try disabling it for a short time, if it works then we can work around it. If not, then it must be something else.

Another thing that might help is un-installing all three then just download and install the latest WLM and try it as it's own. Sometimes IM clients conflict with each-other connecting to the network

Like others have said, try uninstalling them, and then reinstalling them. It might not work because you might not have the latest versions of those messengers. I just had to upgrade my msn to the version that is for vista, even though I have XP. It was giving me errrars as well.

You could always download a stand-alone installer that goes by MSI for Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Final.

Try perhaps uninstalling all three and then cleaning up your registry. You can do this by running one of a number of freeware Registry cleaning tools. You can get one with Advanced SystemCare
The same program comes with a number of other nifty features, though make sure you only mess with the stuff if you know what they do or something could go wrong =)
If you have any questions about the details or anything, just ask =)
