Chrome wont open - January 27th 2014, 02:13 PM

I have a problem with google chrome at the moment, which is that it wont open. When I click it on my taskbar, a message comes up which says:

Quote:
C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Chrome/Application/new_chrome.exe

Unspecified error
I don't know what it is, or how to solve it. Before this, I was getting another message on my computer, which has since stopped and I can't remember what it said, but every time that appeared, Chrome would take hours sometimes to open and so I would have to use FireFox.

I'm on Windows 8. I've looked online but any solutions I found seemed not to be tagretted at windows 8. Any advice you tech-genuis' can give me would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling? If not, I'd suggest you do that first.

Not sure of any other solutions but hopefully somebody else will come along who's more tech-savvy than me

^If doing what Care suggested doesn't work, try to see if there is a upgrade available for chrome. If both should prove not to work I would suggest getting your hard drive/laptop looked at, something maybe wrong with your hardrive that prevents certain programs from opening.

Hope this helps!

What is happening here is not a major issue, it is a well known issue in the I/T field. I have fixed situations like this many times....it is not a hard drive issue, it is a software conflict issue. Sometimes windows updates will cause the software to malfunction and create blank links to another part of the same program.

Uninstall the program, then try and reinstall, if that doesn't work...try while the program is installed...booting in safe mode, then running the program from the directory in the hard drive...NOT FROM THE SHORTCUT ON THE TASKBAR.

Go to C:\Program Files\Google Chrome\
or something similar I don't remember the exact directory off the top of my head...but look under C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files(X86)\

it should be under there...take note when installing to program again to be sure.

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing Google Chrome? If you have already tried that and that didn't work, make sure it is just Google Chrome that is having problems and not all of the other browsers. Also, you should have your hard drive looked at by a computer specialist to see if that is causing the problem to occur.
