Hacks and Cracks, Ethics Edition. - May 1st 2009, 10:39 PM

Okay... I have a... Problem, if you will.

I have very little inhibitions when it comes to Modifying Game systems, Cellphones, Computers, Games, etc.

I want to learn more about these things and possibly make a job out of it. I mean, I've had my Xbox modified by a "professional" and took care of the Software myself. I have also modded 6 PSP's without fail, only encountering a problem with new ones, as they are "Un-Hackable". I want to start trying to unlock CDMA phones now... But my Fiancee doesn't want me to, or for as long as I care to do it, Not tell her. She thinks it's unethical as"If I were supposed to do it, it would be able to be done from the start". I have several excuses and reasons as to why I Can and want to, and I was hoping for some more opinions. If I'm not clear enough on what I mean, I'll be glad to clarify...

Thanks for your words of wisdom and such.

Explain to her that's like saying you can't build an extension because "if it was supposed to have 8 rooms, it would have had it from the start".

Companies have to make money, and so impose limits on the amount of time spent developping and cost of their products. As a result many features that were promised, as well as many that weren't thought ny the team, are not implemented. For example my synth was meant to have a vocoder - unfortunately the extra A/D converter would have made it too expensive.

Well-known keyboard mods:
- Hundreds of 70s, 80s keyboards had MIDI capabilities added in the 90s - Hundreds of happy keyboard players, studios.
- The famous TB303 "Devilfish" mod - Devilfish 303s are now one of the most sought-after pieces of music equipment on ebay. Why wouldn't Roland be happy? Free advertising!

I'll post more once I can find my pc
