Typing? - May 10th 2009, 06:02 PM

Hmmmm... I'm confused

Okay I have a MacBook and I don't remember doing anything different brut now when I type certain letters other letters appear as well and I have to go back and delete them.

When I type 'r', 'u' appears after ( and vice versa, when I type 'u', 'r' appears before) this also happens with 'f' and 'j' and 'm' and 'v'.

Has this ever happened to anyone? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Faye x

Heya Faye!!

Am would it be possible that someone switched your keys around?
Someone did that to me before and it took me forever to figure out what had happened

Have you spilt anything in the keyboard recently?
Try giving a good clean with canned air.

It could also possibly be a virus, so do a proper complete scan to be sure.
It you still can't work it out it might be worth going to a shop and asking their advice.

I spilt some tea on it but that was a couple hours before this started happening so I dunno if it would have contributed to this? I haven't downloaded anything etc. recently so I'm not sure if it's a virus.

Thanks for the ideas guys

EDIT:
it seems to be okay now... i just turned it on and off and left it for a while :/ computers confuse me!

Then it's probably the tea that got into the connections and messing them up, so when you type r it thinks u etc..

You'll probably have to take it somewhere so they can open it up and clean it all out. Unless you trust yourself to do it (but I don't recommend it.)

I second what Jade said.
It can take a few hours for the effects to kick in. Thing is, whilst it might feel like everythings getting better, the connections could start corroding unless someone whacks them with WD-40 or something..
I'd advise getting someone to take a look at it =)

Check to begin with that your keyboard is set to the correct regional setting. E.g English/UK for England and English/U.S for well the U.S, there are different keyboard layouts for each area.

It's very unlikely that your keyboard has been damaged by a spillage it's a ribbon connection inside and they are actually quite hard to wreck.
