Windows 10 :) - August 2nd 2015, 01:56 PM

If you haven't received the notification to download it yet you can simply download it here:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...n-tool-install

I finally managed to install it on my laptop last night It took forever to download/install for some reason but it's working fine for me

I hated Windows 8 with a passion so it's nice to have a decent operating system on my laptop

THE START MENU IS BACK <33333

How do you feel about it?

I'm really used to Windows 8 so I'm scared to get 10, especially sinceI just got this laptop. My sister got it though. Is it worth it?

I plan on waiting a few months before updating because I imagine it'll take a while for it to be working properly

I was thinking about it, but I heard you lose Media Player. I'm afraid of what else it will do. I just got the hard drive replaced and then dealt with a huge virus. I think it's been through enough for now, but I hate Windows 8 too.

Re: Windows 10 :) - August 2nd 2015, 08:45 PM

I briefly upgraded, and then went back to windows 8 My problem is that even though I love to be up to date with things, I also hate change. I hated windows 8 when it first came out, but when I switched to 10, I realised how much I had grown to really like 8. However, my anti-virus wasn't compatible (even though it was supposed to be) and I was having issues with wifi. I'm also waiting to find out if the Sims 2 is compatible, so I'm going to wait a while before I get windows 10 again

Re: Windows 10 :) - August 2nd 2015, 09:04 PM

I love Windows 10 a lot more than 8. Everything is streamlined and the start menu is back and no longer will I have to deal with accidentally moving my mouse too far to the left when trying to scroll and opening that annoying side panel up.
As for media player being gone, VLC is a much better program anyway. So far I don't really have any complaints other than it being tricky to figure out how to change the start menu/task bar color.

And here you are living, despite it all.

Re: Windows 10 :) - August 2nd 2015, 10:47 PM

I could never get The Sims 2 to work in Windows 8 :/ The game would load (as would the loading/menu screens) but once you got into the actual game it would just turn into a black screen.

Yeah, I haven't used media player in about five years :') I use VLC too.

Edit: Sims 2 actually works in Windows 10 I can't seem to change the resolution from 800x600 though :/

I personally love Windows 10. I didn't have Windows 8 because I have an older laptop, so I jumped straight from 7 to 10. For the record, you don't actually lose Windows Media Player. It just isn't the default option anymore. I definitely prefer VLC, though. I love the fact that the Start menu is back and that everything is so streamlined. Honestly, I think Windows 10 is what they were shooting for when they created Windows 8. I have no regrets so far.

Re: Windows 10 :) - August 5th 2015, 08:33 AM

Can you 'degrade' back to Windows 8 if you don't like it? Will this affect anything?

I really want to try Windows 10, I hate 8 so much. I have no idea HOW I'm doing it, but I keep accidentally bringing up the start screen and then it gets stuck and every time I move my mouse it switches between the start screen and the desktop.
My brother has told me that Windows 10 is a lot better, but that it would slow my laptop down a lot so I'd probably be better to just leave it. I still want to try it if I can go back to 8 though!

Re: Windows 10 :) - August 5th 2015, 09:10 AM

Yep, you can definitely degrade back to windows 8. You can find the option in windows 10, in start menu- settings- updates and recovery (or something like that, can't remember the exact wording, but it's the last option) and there is an option to go back to windows 8, but if you keep windows 10 longer than a month, you wont have that option. When I've done it, everything has been fine and nothing was affected (files, programs, apps and settings all stayed the same and worked), but always back things up just in case.

Also, I did try windows 10 again and my antivirus works, but my touchpad didn't...so I'm back on 8

Re: Windows 10 :) - August 5th 2015, 09:23 AM

I upgraded on day one, but it has more bugs on my laptop.

My computer either locks tf up or I get a black screen saying VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR like 2-3 times a day. Does that mean I have to go back to Windows 8.1 and wait a few months?

Watching my mum use Windows 10 in its beta stage was enough to put me off for a fair few months. The personalised ads were annoying and the only way to turn them off was to go directly to their website and have them turned off that way. There's a really horrible privacy invasion the OS has where until you opt out, it has access to all your personal data and even in places like personal email folders. Plus I've heard that it has trouble working with some of the latest GPU's. Overall I'm going to remain on Windows 7 until a few things are ironed out.

On the real release, you can disable that crap in settings, I disabled it like that.

That's what I meant by opting out.

I like windows 10. It seems easier to use and it looks nicer. The only thing so far that I don't like about it is the new browser. Microsoft edge seems to be very slow and won't run java.

Re: Windows 10 :) - August 7th 2015, 11:44 PM

I think it's a fairly solid update, nothing earth-shattering but a decent step up. I'm glad to see the Start menu back and it's much easier to navigate than Windows 8. Design is sleek and smart. I will say that Microsoft Edge hasn't exactly wowed me (it's not as terrible as IE, just not brilliant either) and I'll happily stick to Firefox, but other than that I can't complain. The only bug I've faced so far is that my Internet connectivity hasn't been as reliable since the update, but I don't know for sure whether that's related to Windows 10 or to my router so I'll give Windows 10 the benefit of doubt for now. ^^

Re: Windows 10 :) - August 11th 2015, 06:21 AM

I'm actually having problems with Windows 10 and the way my internet works. The internet will literally not load/go super slow. My boyfriend did a factory reset on my computer and put me back to 8. With 8 it was getting perfectly fine speed. We went back to 10 to test it out and it's doing it again. There are a few things he wants to try but if that doesn't work I'm going back to 8. He did some research and this is a problem some people are having. I probably would have known it was windows 10 and not the computer but I just got a new computer and updated right away.

So, what I saw of Windows 10 was nice and I liked it but this problem makes it unusable. If I can get it fixed I'd like to stay with 10.

I must be quite lucky; I haven't had any problems so far. My boyfriend's Windows phone has been acting a bit weird since the update but his computer and tablet's fine too.
