Sims. - November 15th 2015, 03:56 AM

So I was thinking of playing the Sims recently but I have the Sims 1 and 2.

I have Windows 8 and would love to play the old Sims again but when I tried to download it, it didn't seem to work as nothing came up.

It could be because Windows 8 doesn't support older games.

Does anyone know how to download it?

Thank you!

Hey there,

Not sure if I could be of help. However, have you tried going directly to the sims website? They might be able to assist you there. They may have a forum you can fill out and send into support asking for advice. I am curious to know if they made a compatible version for 1 and 2 to work on different soft wares that you can buy or perhaps download onto your computer.

I play the Free Online Sims game on my phone/tablet, and I know how wonderful the game really is. I really hope you can find something on their website. I will look around for you to see if I can find anything.

Take Care.

If your computer meets the system requirements for the sims 2, then it should, in theory, work. You may need to do a little tweaking to get it to work with windows 8, but it is definitely possible (my sims 2 works on windows 8 and 10). Once you've installed the sims 2, try downloading the patches (you'll find them online) and installing them. It is recommended that you use a programme called 'Grumpy Loader' to make the patches work properly. If that doesn't work, then right click on the sims 2 icon, click 'properties' and then click compatibility, and make it compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 2. This works for me, but I have the disc versions, so I'm not entirely sure if this will work for you, but many people online have managed to get it working. Sometimes you might not need to use compatibility settings though. You may also have graphics issues as sometimes newer graphics cards aren't compatible. Or you may have a compatible card but may end up with 'black box' shadows which can be fixed by turning off (or lowering) the shadow effect in game.

If you have any error messages you could post them here and we'll try to help

I'm not sure if this will work for The Sims, but it should. When you right click the icon, there should be an option for "Properties". Click on Compatibility and you can set the game to run as if you were using Windows 7 or XP or whatever. It can be helpful if the game you have isn't compatible with your OS. I think you need admin permission on the computer though so make sure you're using the main account. Hope it works for you!
