Pokemon Go - July 15th 2016, 12:17 AM

I'm surprised that there isn't a thread here about it yet to be honest (at least, not to my knowledge). I downloaded the game recently as it is officially in the UK now and I love it, although the AR doesn't work on my phone which is a bummer but it's great to see which places where I live are gyms and pokestops!
There are three gyms in my vicinity and one of them is the church down my road so I'm determined to get that if I choose a team that isn't in control of it, once I get to level 5 that is! I'm only on level 3 because there were some problems catching some pokemon while on a walk with my mum...

I'd love to know your thoughts on Pokemon Go. Are any of you guys playing it? Do you plan to play it? Or are you going to avoid it?

Hell yeah, team Mystic. I play and go walking with family or see what I catch while out. Mainly the same stuff each time and I ran out of pokeballs while trying to catch a Bulbasaur.

99% of what I waste my pokeballs on are Rattata, Weedle, Spearow, and Pidgey.
My last two eggs were a Weedil and a Ghastly. I already had a ghastly.

This game looks very addictive and requires a lot of dedication. I think I'll stay away.

Re: Pokemon Go - July 15th 2016, 05:20 AM

It's early in the morning as I type this but I cannot believe I'm planning to walk to at least one other pokestop today, I hope people don't give me any weird looks.
It's a choice between team Mystic or Instinct for me, I want to join team Mystic because two gyms are controlled and I could get the one owned by Valor... but if I join team Instinct I could eventually take all three gyms to screw the teams over and confuse a few people I knew from school which would be hilarious!
I haven't walked far enough to get an egg but I will soon... hopefully.

I would play it if I had a phone that would allow me to play it. I did try to get it on my iPod touch, and yeah, it works, but I have to be connected to wifi, so that's not going to work much

This. My phone dies when it hits 90% battery, so I've got no hopes of playing it.

Team Instinct!! I love it and the gyms around here change so often it's pretty easy to get into one. I wish I walked more though I have so many pidgeys.

The only smart phone I own currently is a disconnected iPhone 4 running on iOS 7. Not gonna work. I'd like to try it if I ever get another smart phone that has data.

Re: Pokemon Go - July 15th 2016, 06:50 PM

Overall I think it's a great game. It's getting people out and moving, and talking to other people. I have friends who have been walking multiple miles a day just to hatch their eggs. I'm personally on Team Mystic. My battery and data aren't thrilled with the game but I'm totally okay with that Right now T-Mobile is offering unlimited Pokemon Go data for a year for their customers, as well as other gifts such as $15 in Lyft credit to go to pokemon gyms/stops. The game has boosted Nintendo stock tremendously.

That said, people need to be careful. Every con I think of with this game comes from the choices made by users, not the game itself. People have fallen off cliffs from not watching where they're going. People have been mugged by going to pokestops in unsafe areas at night, it also gives a signal to everyone in the area if you install a module at a pokestop. I'm sure plenty of people are going to try to play and drive, although it's very difficult to do anything while moving in a car (I've played as a passenger).

There have also been privacy concerns. Originally, on iOS, it said it needed full access to your google account if you chose to sign in with gmail (which wasn't actually a choice for many people, the pokemon accounts were closed due to the large number of people trying to sign up). They have since released an update that changed this so it only has access to very limited gmail information. There's also concerns with the privacy policy, I've had people trying to convince me the NSA is now tracking my phone including everything on it not pokemon related. Having read it, it has similar permissions as other location based apps such as Tinder.

Overall, I think it's a great game as long as people aren't stupid.

Oh and GO TEAM MYSTIC

Re: Pokemon Go - July 15th 2016, 10:50 PM

So I caught an Eevee this morning and I might evolve it into a Jolteon when I am able to. I evolved a Pidgey into a Pidgeotto and a Rattata into a Raticate- which in terms of CP is the highest with 131.
I'm considering joining team Instinct because teams Mystic and Valor seem to really fight it out over the gyms in my area so I could swoop in and screw them both over which would be funny... although one gym is owned by team Instinct for now but I predict that either Mystic or Valor will reclaim it either later tonight or tomorrow morning. And considering it's Saturday tomorrow the gyms are going to be switching control left, right and centre!

I downloaded it on my tablet but it crashed before the app was done loading!

I hate it when that happens! It drives me Insane!
Because right off the bat it crashes and I can never play it like what the heck?

But, a lot of people are dying from that game!
They fall into a river or whatever and die!

So, whenever you play be safe!

Be safe and have fun!

Re: Pokemon Go - July 16th 2016, 10:11 PM

I haven't played it and I don't think I will. But, my boyfriend does. We went out walking and exploring so he could play and we could get out of the house and go on a date.

Personally, I think it's a good thing. I think it is allowing people to go out and get exercise while having fun. I've also noticed that a lot of people who are struggling with depression are using it as a coping skill. That's great in and of itself but it requires exercise and that is known to help depression.

I have friends that are criticizing people that are using it and I get so annoyed. People complain about so much stuff though.

Re: Pokemon Go - July 20th 2016, 04:29 AM

Honestly, I don't get the hype about it. I will not be playing it.
It's getting me frustrated massively when I'm driving because people are just crossing the street without putting their phones down (even on busy, busy roads that are already filled with traffic) and I can see people pulling over in their cars just to catch a Pokemon/playing when they're driving. When we were on vacation there was so many people playing it there, it was ridiculous. They were just walking around
with their eyes glued to their phones. The main reason of going there was playing the game, not even for the rides/etc. I was never allowed to watch/play/collect the cards or anything when I was younger though so that might be part of the reason why I'm not interested but I also find it dangerous. I get the idea behind it and trying to get people more active but I don't agree with it. My parents have also banned my siblings from getting it/playing it as well because they don't feel it's safe and my siblings really don't care about it either since we never were allowed to have it on the tv or have the cards/games.

This is just my opinion though.

Re: Pokemon Go - July 20th 2016, 09:53 PM

I love this game... but it has its problems for me... i have an iphone 4s and it seems to be like really crashy and glitchy on that some days... other days its fine... today it was the servers but i caught a jigglypuff today which i was like really happy about.. I'm finding pokemon go has actually like given me a reason to get up. I'm motivated, and I'm learning to map read and its also helping me talk to people. when usually im like really anti social and its me against the world suddenly this game has come out and I'm like finding its helping me in so many ways im exercising more, i'm feeling more motivated and its helping me with me anxiety as it means I have to go to places that I dont like usually go to and its also meaning I have to like interact with people. I've got an iphone 5c to upgrade to so I'm like going to hopefully upgrade to that at the weekend. theres 2 pokestops like ten mins from my house and a pokegym also ten mins from my house i dont understand this team thing... do you just like select a team when you get to level 5? or does it select a team for you i dont understand the team thing.

You pick your team at level 5. And the game does have days and times that it's glitchy and crashes, it's likely not your phone.

I can't download it on my phone, which is a damn bummer.

Because of Pokemon GO, there is something in my area that I could do socially instead of sitting at home all day when my girlfriend has something else to do, however. So I'm finding out ways to get Pokemon Go (Sister has an older mobile that is compatible with Pokemon GO and my grandma has one as well). I just hope it's a springboard to making new friends nearby

I really like how nintendo has made it through google so you can sign in on different devices! My older sister has a pretty crappy phone, but her boyfriend lets her use his to play once and a while. Pretty neat.

I'm enjoying it a lot.

HOWEVER, I think it's EXTREMELY annoying that people where I live seem to be very vocal about how Pokemon GO is stupid and people are wasting their lives playing it. I've heard so many people talk about how immature it is, etc. Coincidentally these are people who watch football, play sports, etc. (kind of ironic, but whatever).

Re: Pokemon Go - July 24th 2016, 05:46 PM

Pokemon Go is about to get ads. They will be in the form of "sponsored" locations, for example in Japan they're turning McDonald's into gyms. So basically you'll probably have to pay for something at a lot of gym locations in the near future. I'm personally not all that bothered by this, Niantic's previous game Ingress also had sponsors with events and locations.

https://techcrunch.com/2016/07/13/po...red-locations/

There is also a man claiming to be the first to catch every currently known/available pokemon in North America. There are four continent specific pokemon: Farfetch’d (Asia), Kangaskhan (Australia), Tauros (North America), and Mr. Mime (Europe). While it is impossible to catch them in the wild anywhere, you should be able to hatch them from eggs. There are six others that have yet to be seen: Articuno, Ditto, Mew, Mewtwo, Moltres, and Zapdos.

Re: Pokemon Go - August 6th 2016, 09:44 PM

I'm really enjoying it. It's giving me motivation to get out and be more active, which is great. It's also a major flashback to my childhood, which I LOVE. Pokemon was my all time favourite GameBoy game growing up so it's really amazing to be able to live it.
The only thing I have an issue with is people using bots or whatever to boost their numbers and take over gyms. I have no hope of even battling at any gyms I've seen (bar one that's over 200 miles away) because the Pokemon there are at levels so far above me. Even more annoying that the gyms in my area are all controlled by the same few people with level 2000+ Pokemon.

So it sucks that I can't enjoy the gyms part of the game, it's still fun to play.
I hope Niantic bring back the battery saver though. They said they removed it because the game wasn't working properly for some people while battery saver mode was on. I never had any issues with it and am annoyed that it's now going to drain my battery massively to play the game for any length of time (iPhone batteries are notoriously bad.)

TEAM MYSTIC!

My sister actually had the issue with battery saver messing her game up. As soon as she took it off the game started working a lot better.

I had issues with battery saver, although I still opted to use it. I would use it to turn my phone upside down and walk to hatch eggs but a lot of the time it wouldn't light back up so I'd have to force quit and reload. They've also removed tracking pretty much totally, shut down pokevision. I've also noticed that things seem to pop out of balls more frequently now, but I'm also seeing a lot of new pokemon suddenly.

I used to be Team Valor, too, and I finally found some eggs to hatch (by raiding as many pokestops as possible every time I would go somewhere in the car ), but now my phone is dead and I might have to get a new one, so I just hope they saved all my data.
