Antivirus software? - January 7th 2017, 12:51 PM

What do you suggest I use for antivirus software? I've used Norton Antivirus for years, but I've been encountering problems with it since getting my new computer.

Evidently there's a regionalization thing now? No idea what that is and there was never any implication of that when I pissed away $52 for a new subscription and product key, even though one had just renewed.

So, yeah, I want to switch antivirus software. What do you guys use?

I personally have a paid subscription to Avast on my Windows 10 laptop.

What operating system are you using? If I remember correctly, you said you had a Macbook. When I had my Macbook I never once used an antivirus program on it and never had a problem. The only reason it died was because the battery gave out.

What are you looking for in an antivirus? Some people need more extensive protection because they download things on the internet that aren't always secure, but if you're not doing that then paying for such is a bit of a waste. Besides Norton there's Avast, McAfee, Kaspersky, and Bitdefender (from the top of my head). There are other programs out there as well, but knowing what you need specifically would help narrow it down.

Hey, Oliver. My MacBook Air is OSX7.5, but I got a computer last week for my birthday. This computer is a Windows 10 HP Laptop. I don't download anything from questionable websites or go anywhere that could have a virus or malware hidden in any of the pages. I pretty much stick to the same five or six websites, and then there's the Wordpress blogs.

I have the free version of Avast and have never had issues with it. One of my laptops came with a McAfee free trial and when said laptop was a mess and dying, the repair guy said that was why. Could've been because it was a free trial that ended and the program kept running, but I say why risk it?

Now, I have to warn you that my mom somehow infected her (Windows 7) with ransomware and said all she was looking at were blogs. It took me all day to get rid of it. It might be worth downloading the free version of Malwarebytes just in case. I've had it find stuff on mine and I don't use it for anything other than TH and Facebook.

I am using Avast. I have a paid subscription on my laptop upstairs, and the free version on this laptop. I have used it for years and have had no problems with it.
