Virus? - June 15th 2017, 11:46 AM

I don't know if there has been a thread on this before, but I had a look through this forum briefly and couldn't find it so I'll post a new one anyway.

Recently when I've been on various areas of this website, my whole browser screen brings up a virus warning which goes full screen and won't let me close it. It only happens on TeenHelp, and when I run a virus scanner it doesn't say my computer is infected, but it's slightly irritating when I'm half way through a long reply to a thread and the whole screen changes to warn me I have a virus and won't let me go back

Has anyone else had a similar issue and is there a way to prevent it from happening? I'm not sure if it's a me issue or a site issue, but advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

This post from Holly (Celyn) might be helpful for you!

I used to get these virus warnings when I came on TeenHelp, but have been using the AdBlock Plus plug-in on Firefox for years now. I don't think it's actually anything malicious, because on another forum I get what I believe you are describing. It's a full screen, red background, from Avast telling me that the site is untrusted.

My guess is because there's so many images stored on TH (and that site) that over the years the site changed. The image still exists on the site's servers, but the site where it originated from have probably gotten infected and that impacts the site you are viewing, whether or not you're on the page where the image is posted.

I know that sounds confusing but, yeah, check out Holly's post linked above.

I would suggest downloading malware bytes or spy bot search and destroy - my virus protection (AVG) did not pick up on some threats on my laptop so it may be worth downloading one or both of these and doing a scan using these. I sometimes get a notification pop up in the corner of my screen when using teenhelp that is basically telling me that teenhelp has what it baiscally calls a unsecure connection.
