Can't Delete Folder From Flash Drive? - September 8th 2017, 10:37 AM

We have a flash drive and there's a folder that I think might have gotten corrupted. Screenshot:

I've tried deleting it, but it doesn't work. Does anyone know how I could get rid of this?

Corrupted or is this a virus? Because this seems like a virus

I'm pretty sure it's corrupted, it was previously a folder full of pictures

Re: Can't Delete Folder From Flash Drive? - September 9th 2017, 05:12 PM

Hey there!

I want to start off saying that there's a possibility you won't be able to recover your files, but hopefully you are able to retrieve them if you want to. I also see that you have a folder named "Back Ups" on your drive, so if it contains backups for your computer or any other device I would save them in another location should they be lost.

If you haven't already, have your antivirus program scan the drive. If you don't have a subscription to one, there are some free antivirus programs out there that are pretty decent. The next thing I'd suggest doing is try to view your files on another PC if you have access to one. If your antivirus scan comes back clean and the drive still doesn't work on another PC or you don't have access to one, I'm going to explain what the next best step would be.

Two things before I explain: First, you need to have administrator privileges to do this so if you don't you will need to ask the person who does. Second, these are the steps for Windows 10 so these steps may vary if you have a different version of Windows. Let me know if you don't see these options and I will give you the steps for your operating system.

These are the steps:
  1. Right click on the drive name ("Lexar (E:)" in this case) and select "Properties". It's typically found at the bottom of the right-click menu.
  2. Navigate to the "Tools" section in the window that pops up.
  3. Under "Tools" you should see an option that says "Error checking" which will check for errors on your drive. It should look like this:
  4. Click on "Check" and you should get a prompt to run the check
  5. It will run the check and try to repair any errors the drive has

If this doesn't work then there are some other methods to try to fix it, but this was one of the easier ways to go about it. So let me know if you need clarification or whether it works after you try it.

“There is nothing beautiful about the wreckage of a human being.
There is nothing pretty about damage, about pain, about heartache.
What is beautiful is their strength, their resilience, their fortitude
as they display an ocean of courage when they pick through the
wreckage of their life to build something beautiful brand new,
against every odd that is stacked against them.” — Nikita Gill
